PLC Controls Engineer

PDS Tech Commercial is seeking a PLC Controls Engineer to support post and parcel material handling projects across the country. This is a high-impact, travel-intensive role ideal for professionals with hands-on experience in PLC programming, HMI systems, and commissioning complex sortation systems.

Pay Rate: $35 – $40/hr.

Schedule: 1st Shift 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Travel: Up to 90% nationwide-Main location Mason, OH

Role Summary

As a PLC Controls Enginee r, you will lead the commissioning and testing of automated material handling systems, including high-speed sortation, scanning, and merging applications. You’ll manage the controls scope of projects, from planning through execution, ensuring alignment with customer expectations and technical standards.

Key Responsibilities

Lead PLC programming, HMI configuration, and on-site commissioning activities

Manage project scope, schedule, and deliverables

Collaborate with project engineers and cross-functional teams

Develop and maintain technical documentation, QA/QC validations, and test plans

Execute system testing (BUAT/UAT/FAT) and provide post-installation support

Deliver customer training and ensure successful handoff Required Qualifications •Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field• Up to 2 years of experience in controls engineering or material handling projects• Exposure to Allen-Bradley PLCs and Wonderware Aveva Edge (or similar HMI platforms)• Interest or experience in post and parcel operations is a plus Technical Expertise

PLC & HMI Systems: Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff, Wonderware Aveva Edge, SCADA

Drives & Interfaces: VFDs, scanner integration (SICK, Cognex), machine vision

Software Tools: Studio 5000, Logix 5000, RSLinx, FactoryTalk View, AutoCAD, Automation Studio

Protocols: Ethernet/IP, Profibus, WCS interfaces

Additional Tools: Ignition, SOPAS, Datalogic DataMan

Soft Skills

Strong project planning and budgeting capabilities

Excellent communication and documentation skills

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in fast-paced environments

Pay Details: $35.00 to $40.00 per hour
