Position Description

The City of Signal Hill is seeking one Local Business Representative and four Community Members to join the

Sustainable City Committee (SCC)

There is currently one (1) Local Business Member vacancy and four (4) Community Member vacancies. The appointees shall serve the completion of a two-year term of office until June 30, 2027. These are unpaid positions.

The Sustainable City Committee is made up of community members, elected, and appointed officials. The committee advises the City Council and acts as community liaison on environmental issues and policies.

The recruitment will close on June 8, 2025, at 4:30 p.m.

The Sustainable City Committee will conduct interviews at its regular meeting on

Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.

Example of Duties

The Sustainable City Committee of the City of Signal Hill is welcoming applications for the role of a local business member and community member.

Signal Hill is committed to striking a balance between economic growth, social responsibility, and environmental well-being by partnering with our neighbors, businesses, and the community to provide a healthy and enduring environment for future generations. The City Council has charged the Sustainable City Committee with developing and recommending a sustainability framework that promotes environmentally sound and financially practical objectives.

Meetings are held at 6:00 p.m. on the 1st Tuesday of February, May, August, and October.

Minimum Qualifications

Local Business Member:Candidates must be a local business owner, manager or approved agent of a business in Signal Hill, at least 18 years of age, and a legal resident of California. Proof of local business member status must be submitted as an attachment with the application. Examples of proof may be a business license, letter of incorporation, letter from the business owner or officer with the name of the applicant.

Community Member: Candidates must be residents of the City of Signal Hill, shall continue to reside in the City for the duration of the term, and be at least 18 years of age.

All interviews will be conducted at the regular meeting on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Each applicant shall have a demonstrated concern for, and desire to sustain and improve, the status of natural resources and the environment of the City. Applicants may have personal, volunteer, professional experience or scholarly expertise in environmental fields, geology, hydrology, land use planning, ecology, biology or in fields relating to the social, economic or environmental aspects of the City.

No additional benefits are provided to City Commissioners or Committee members.
