We are seeking an experienced Vice President of Property Accounting to serve as a strategic leader, overseeing and scaling the property accounting function for our growing single-family rental portfolio. This individual will play a critical leadership role, driving the evolution of our accounting infrastructure and work cross-functionally to support investment performance, risk management and regulatory compliance while overseeing all aspects of property-level financial reporting, accounting operations and controls. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in real estate accounting, exceptional leadership skills, and a track record of building high-performing teams in a dynamic, high-volume environment.Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
Lead, develop, and mentor a high-performing property accounting team (including offshore vendors and contractors)
Set the vision for process improvement, automation and scalability across property accounting functions and partner with senior leadership to drive strategic initiatives and improve operational efficiency.
Establish and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all property accounting activities to support a growing portfolio.
Serve as a key accounting leader to the CFO and senior management.
Lead documentation, training, and quality assurance for consistent accounting execution.
Accounting Operations
Oversee all aspects of property-level accounting, including month and quarter-end close, bank reconciliations, accruals, and fixed asset management.
Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and internal standards.
Maintain a strong internal control environment.
Deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting packages with property- and portfolio-level insights.
Monitor property performance metrics and support variance analysis with operational counterparts.
Systems & Process Improvement
Design, implement, and continuously improve policy, process and workflows to property and portfolio accounting, reserves, expense accruals, amortization, and capital expenditure tracking.
Evaluate and implement systems and tools to enhance accuracy, automation, and transparency in accounting operations.
Lead system optimization efforts including integrations with property management software (Propertyware)
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with asset management, property operations, legal, and external auditors to ensure alignment between financial reporting and operational realities.
Act as a thought partner and support transaction activity, and business activities including acquisitions, dispositions, and financings, with timely and accurate accounting insights.Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
10+ years of progressive experience in property or real estate accounting, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Direct experience in the single-family rental (SFR) space or related investment platforms.
Deep knowledge of GAAP accounting, internal controls, property-level reporting, and real estate operational accounting.
Proficient in Excel, NetSuite and real estate accounting platforms (e.g., Propertyware (preferred), Appfolio, Yardi, MRI, or similar).
Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Track record of driving continuous improvement and leading accounting functions through growth and scale.
