JSI invites you to join our team as an Environmental Specialist on our Fiber Network Design and Implementation team in Nephi, UT, where you'll play a critical role in advancing broadband and telecommunications initiatives that expand connectivity and drive digital inclusion—while advancing your career within a mission-driven, growth-focused organization.

Position Overview:

As an Environmental Specialist, you will assist our permitting and engineering teams throughout the process of applying for telecommunications construction permits. You will be responsible for researching environmental concerns and ensuring compliance with governing agencies through the completion of our clients’ projects.

The position may involve working remotely or on-site in Nephi, UT.

Responsibilities

Identifying potential nexus for environmental work on fiber optic construction projects.

Driving projects through environmental review, including NEPA compliance, NHPA Section 106 concurrence, and Section 7 consultation.

Coordinating with federal, state, and local agencies to determine environmental requirements and provide documentation for clearances.

Collaborating with funding agencies to provide documentation for environmental review.

Communicating project status updates to senior management, team members, and clients.

Participating in fieldwork, budget and milestone coordination, and proposal or scope-of-work (SOW) development.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Working knowledge of federal and state laws (e.g., NEPA, NHPA, CWA, and ESA) governing natural resource management.

Demonstrated experience with federal agencies such as the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), US Forest Service (USFS), US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), and other state and local agencies.

Experience and ability to manage multiple smaller projects in diverse settings and with changing requirements.

Ability to resolve conflicts in a timely and professional manner.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree with a biology or archaeology-related emphasis.

Knowledge of NEPA, Section 106, and Section 7 regulations.
