Job Description

We are looking for a skilled Grant Accountant to join our team in Long Beach, California. This Contract-to-permanent position is ideal for professionals with a passion for grant and project accounting, as well as a commitment to ensuring accuracy and compliance in financial reporting. The role involves collaborating with diverse teams and funding agencies to manage grant transactions, prepare reports, and implement effective accounting practices.

Responsibilities:

• Analyze and monitor grant and project transactions, ensuring accurate documentation, improved collection methods, and actionable insights.

• Prepare detailed workpapers and create journal entries to reflect grant and project activities.

• Review and present expenditure data on a monthly, quarterly, and ad-hoc basis while proposing corrective actions when necessary.

• Oversee the capital check run cycle by verifying grant funding eligibility and availability, while ensuring compliance with agreements and project scopes.

• Collaborate with Finance to maintain accurate records of capital acquisitions and disposals, including funding source details.

• Manage automated accounts receivable processes to prepare reimbursement packages, resolve billing issues, and collect outstanding funds from agencies.

• Coordinate with the Capital Program Manager and Capital and Grants Planner to evaluate, revise, and implement grant amendments.

• Prepare and submit close-out documentation for grant-funded projects, ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local requirements.

• Support Finance in preparing audits and regulatory reports, verifying external inputs for compliance and accuracy, and implementing necessary adjustments.

• Assist in developing the annual capital budget and preparing financial and grant status reports in partnership with the Capital Program Analyst.• A minimum of three years of experience in grant or project accounting.

• Proficiency in accounting software systems and tools.

• Strong knowledge of accounting functions, budget processes, and capital management.

• Expertise in auditing principles and practices.

• Ability to manage cash activity and ensure compliance with grant agreements.

• Experience in analyzing financial data and preparing comprehensive reports.

• Excellent communication and organizational skills to collaborate effectively with teams and agencies.

• Familiarity with federal, state, and local grant requirements and regulations.
