Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Controller to lead the financial operations of a dynamic construction company based in Irvine, California. This role requires a deep understanding of construction industry accounting practices, including project-based financial management and billing processes. The ideal candidate is not only technically skilled but also adept at team leadership and fostering collaboration across departments.
Responsibilities:
• Manage and oversee general ledger activities, account reconciliations, and month-end closing procedures to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and financial performance metrics for multiple branches.
• Prepare and present financial statements, including profit and loss reports, balance sheets, and cash flow analyses, to senior management and stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with construction-specific accounting standards, such as job costing and percentage-of-completion methods.
• Oversee billing processes, including progress billing and lien waiver documentation, while managing change orders and tracking their financial impact.
• Collaborate with project managers to monitor project costs, payments, and outstanding receivables.
• Lead and mentor an accounting team across multiple locations, fostering growth and ensuring operational efficiency.
• Enhance accounting systems and reporting processes to align with organizational goals and optimize decision-making.
• Work closely with auditors to ensure compliance during financial audits and reviews.
• Manage financial risks by monitoring contractor retainage, credit policies, and payment terms.• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• At least 7–10 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, including 3 years in the construction industry.
• Expertise in construction-specific accounting practices, such as job costing, progress billing, and change order management.
• Proficiency in accounting software systems like Sage 300, Procore, or Viewpoint, along with advanced Excel skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a team, ensuring adherence to best practices.
• Strong analytical, communication, and organizational abilities.
• Familiarity with union and non-union payroll processes in the construction industry is preferred.
• Experience with financial consolidation and reporting across multiple branches is a plus.
