Purpose Statement
The role of the IT Data Engineering Support Specialist is to ensure the secure and efficient operation of the district's data systems, contributing to data-driven decision making, and supporting educational outcomes. This includes managing and securely maintaining databases, developing data pipelines, ensuring data integrity and security, and providing technical support to staff using various educational technology platforms and data analytics tools. This specialist collaborates with various departments to collect, analyze, and report on data related to student performance, operations, and compliance, ultimately enhancing the district's ability to utilize data for continuous improvement.
This job reports to the Director of Information Technology or Designee
Essential Functions
Data Systems Support: Assist in the design, deployment, installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and secure maintenance of cloud-based and on premise data and programmed systems (e.g., data warehouses, data lakes, applications, etc.) throughout the district. Provide technical assistance and support.
Programming and Data Systems Support: Assist in the support of programming and data functions/systems within cloud environments (e.g., grade reporting, progress reports, data queries in cloud data platforms). Support the use of on premise and cloud-based tools for data analysis and reporting.
Data Task and Project Support: Assist in supporting assigned, department programming, and data tasks, projects, and initiatives that utilize on premise and cloud technologies. Provide technical assistance, advice, and support related to cloud data projects.
Collaboration and Direction: Assume a principal role or serve on a team, providing and receiving technical and logistical directions regarding on premise and cloud data solutions and implementations. Collaborate with colleagues on cloud-based data projects.
Data Integration and Synchronization: Design, write, edit, and synchronize data across various systems, including cloud platforms (e.g., integrating on-premises systems with cloud data warehouses, syncing data between different applications). Ensure reliable data transfer and interfaces within a hybrid cloud environment.
Stakeholder Interaction with Data: Interact with employees, department staff, vendors, and the community to cultivate supportive and informative relationships regarding on premise and cloud data systems and practices.
Preparation for Reporting: Prepare various state and internal assessment data, including data stored in on premise and cloud platforms, for importing into systems like Infinite Campus, ParentSquare, EduClimber, Visions, etc.. Ensure accessibility to assessment, curricular, instructional and operational data results from on premise and cloud sources for end users.
Data Training and Coaching: Train and coach others on on premise and cloud data programs and systems throughout the district (e.g., data analytics tools, data visualization platforms, storage solutions). Ensure users can effectively use new and existing technologies and information systems.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the secured, efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: preparing and maintaining accurate records; classifying data and/or information; using pertinent software applications.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: relational databases, record structures, media input and output devices; current generation programming methodology including object based design, operating systems, protocols, and programming languages.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; analyze data utilizing a variety of complex processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with data of varied types and/or purposes; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with persons of varied technical knowledge and backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; working as part of a team; adapting to changing priorities; work in flexible shifts, including but not limited to evenings, nights, weekends and holidays; applying logical processes and analytical skills.

Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 90% sitting, 5% walking, and 5% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Experience: Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
