POSITION: Elementary Special Education Teacher(s)

START DATE/CALENDAR: August 12, 2025/per 2025-26 District Calendar

SALARY/BENEFITS: As outlined in KHEA Master Agreement

QUALIFICATIONS:

Current Michigan Teaching Certification with special education endorsement as specified by the Michigan Department of Education (SA, SC, SE, SM or SV).

Experience working with elementary students preferred.

Experience with Capturing Kids Hearts preferred.

SKILLS/ATTRIBUTES:

Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member.

Work effectively with parents.

Flexibility in working with the variety of subject areas (curriculum) taught in elementary special education settings and provide the general education teacher with strategies.

Demonstrated ability to write effective annual goals and instructional objectives.

Demonstrated ability to adapt to differences and changes in characteristics of pupils, programs, leadership, staff, and community.

Work effectively with community agencies and resources.

Demonstrated knowledge and skill in a variety of behavior management and change strategies.

Work effectively co-teaching in the classroom as well as resource program setting.

Demonstrated ability to support the concept of full inclusion for special education students.

High level of understanding about personalized learning and competency-based education systems preferred.

Required knowledge of skills and abilities related to diversity and cultural competence.

Knowledge of own competence in the area of diversity and how this influences own behavior and a desire to learn about others identities.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participate in IEPC as a team member.

Write program (student) goals and objectives.

Perform all case-manager duties related to the IEP process.

Conduct annual student evaluations.

Develop and manage appropriate classroom climate.

Work directly and provide follow up with teachers in the general education setting to provide inclusion whenever and wherever appropriate as identified in the IEP.

Make parent and/or agency contacts as needed.

Attend professional development in-services or workshops as approved by the Director of Special Education or Principal.
