Summary
The Senior Offshore Pipeline Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, and installation planning of offshore pipelines. Key duties include preparing specifications, drawings, and scopes of work (SOW), performing technical evaluations, and verifying contractor submissions. The role demands expertise in industry codes (especially DNV), pipeline engineering software, subsea construction, and regulatory compliance. The engineer will coordinate across disciplines, support procurement and offshore operations, and guide consultants and junior staff.
Responsibilities
Prepare offshore pipeline design and installation specifications
Prepare pipeline drawings and alignment sheets
Perform pipeline design and installation analysis
Preparation of SOW for pipeline installation, pre and post lay interventions, pipe and coating supply
Prepare SOW for pipe supply including corrosion and weight coating
Verification of pipeline contractors analysis for pipeline installation, pre and post lay intervention, pre-commissioning
Prepares specifications, data sheets, material requisitions and bid evaluations
Review vendor provided data, documentation, and drawings
Evaluates, selects, and applies standard pipeline engineering methods, techniques, procedures and criteria, using independent judgment in making adaptations and modifications
Familiar with subsea construction techniques and equipment.
Coordinates work and collaborates with other engineering disciplines
Provides technical assistance to other pipeline personnel and will interact with project functions, the customer, and regulatory agency personnel in the resolution of complex regulatory issues
Provides assistance to project and construction management in identifying and complying with project pipeline requirements and in addressing issues as they arise during project execution
Ensures that engineering is carried out in accordance with Bechtel’s work processes and procedures, project specific procedures, and contractual requirements
Ensures that pipeline design meets industry best practice and complies with pertinent pipeline codes and standards, governing regulations, and industry practices
Prepares or assist in preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or bid proposals for pipeline
Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity take-offs and staffing requirements for proposals, forecasts and change orders
Reviews and checks work of subordinate engineers
Supports the creation of a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction
Required
10+ years of relevant offshore pipeline engineering experience.
Strong understanding of industry and regulatory codes, standards, and offshore pipeline design criteria.
Proficient in DNV pipeline design and construction codes.
Skilled in pipeline analysis software (e.g., for stress, stability, installation).
Experience in design and construction of conventional and trenchless shore crossings.
Direct field experience onboard pipeline installation vessels.
Ability to manage interface coordination across disciplines, including environmental and operational teams.
Experience providing site engineering support during pipeline procurement, fabrication, installation, and commissioning.
Capable of facilitating internal workshops and training related to offshore pipeline scope.
Proven ability to manage and verify the work of design consultants.
Strong oral and written communication skills for preparing technical reports and documentation.
Education
A recognized degree in engineering from an accredited college or university (or international equivalent)
License required
Registered as a Professional Engineer in Texas or other state or country is preferred OR a Professional Engineering-in -Training (EIT) license from a recognized licensing board
