About the Company:
Capitis Solutions Inc. was founded in 2007 and is a Maryland-based Information Technology consulting company, specializing in implementing modern applications. Our philosophy to align with the client’s organizational culture and provide cost effective, quality solutions is key to our success. Our approach to problem solving is unique and our clients benefit from the results in weeks rather than months.
About the Role:
Capitis Solutions is seeking a highly motivated AWS Automation Engineer to join our team. Splunk is our enterprise SIEM and a backbone of our security-compliance program. We’re re-platforming it into a modern, multi-account AWS environment to deliver higher reliability, availability, and security. You’ll automate that migration—deepening your skills in infrastructure and application security in the process.
Responsibilities:
Build & refine Terraform modules that stand up Splunk EC2 clusters, EBS volumes, and supporting resources inside pre-existing AWS accounts.
Automate workflows with Python/Boto3 & shell scripting (e.g., installing Splunk, orchestrating upgrades, wiring CloudWatch/Splunk alerts).
Operate within existing IAM and network baselines—validating policies, request ing least-privilege exceptions when needed.
Use AWS Systems Manager (SSM) for patching, run-commands, and parameter storage.
Participate in Agile ceremonies (daily stand-ups, bi-weekly demos, retros) and collaborate. with five close teammates inside a 10-person Cloud & Security Engineering group.
Required Skills and Experience:
4–8 years in AWS automation / cloud engineering
Strong Python (Boto3) and shell scripting
Terraform experience for AWS resources (you will enhance existing modules more than create brand-new ones)
Expert-level EC2 proficiency—launch configurations, Auto Scaling, AMI pipelines, OS hardening, and performance tuning.
Proven history of deploying complex applications on EC2 at enterprise scale (Splunk, ELK, or similar distributed systems).
Broad, hands-on experience across key AWS services (SSM, CloudWatch, IAM, Lambda, S3, ALB/NLB, Route 53) and integrating them into CI/CD workflows.
Familiarity with IAM concepts (roles, policies, cross-account access) and ability to validate least-privilege implementations
Linux administration or strong linux based automation & software deployment (Splunk, ELK, or similar)
Prior experience in Agile / DevSecOps environments
B.S. in CS, Engineering, or related field
U.S. Citizen or Green-Card holder (W-2 employment)
Nice-to-Have
Splunk architecture / administration
AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or Security-Specialty certifications
Background in security-engineering initiatives
Work Schedule & Culture
Hybrid: 3 on-site (Reston) / 2 remote
2-week sprints with demos & retrospectives
Background check only—no clearance, no travel
Inclusive, equal-opportunity employer
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive salary
Medical, dental, vision
401(k) with company match
PTO etc.
Success Metrics:
Within your first two weeks you’ll immerse yourself in our AWS Accounts and Splunk architecture, quickly beginning to contribute meaningful code—whether that’s refining Terraform modules, enhancing automation scripts. By the end of the second month you should be demonstrating clear, visible progress on the migration effort through completed component deployments, improved CI/CD pipelines, and tangible reductions in manual effort or project risk. The migration is only phase one. Next up: threat-hunting and Gen-AI automations for the Security Engineering team—ideal for leveling up in cloud, infrastructure, and application security.
