Controller – Construction & WIP Expert Scottsdale, AZ (On-site)

Immedia is seeking a highly analytical and detail-driven Controller to lead our financial operations. This role is perfect for a technical expert who thrives in fast-paced environments and excels at Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting, job costing, and process accuracy.

Ideal candidate has 10+ years of accounting experience, deep construction financial knowledge, and a passion for precision. CPA preferred.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly analytical, detail-obsessed, and process-driven Controller to lead our financial operations in a fast-paced, construction-focused organization. This role is ideal for a Technical Expert who thrives on precision, structure, and mastery, and is energized by solving complex problems, driving results under pressure, and ensuring financial accuracy in a dynamic business environment.

The ideal candidate is a self-sufficient thinker with deep curiosity and an unrelenting focus on accuracy, deadlines, and process improvement — especially within construction accounting and Work-in-Progress (WIP) environments.

Core Responsibilities

Financial Strategy & Execution

Lead full-cycle accounting operations including WIP tracking, job costing, budgeting, and project-level profitability.

Maintain robust financial systems that support ongoing analysis, predictability, and organizational control.

Own and maintain the company’s GAAP/OCBOA-compliant financials with rigorous adherence to internal controls.

Data Analysis & Reporting

Deliver detailed, accurate, and timely financial statements and reports to leadership and external stakeholders.

Execute in-depth variance analysis and forecasting to support strategic decision-making.

Develop and maintain dashboards, metrics, and KPI reports with a focus on trend identification and data integrity.

Process Improvement & Systems Oversight

Standardize and document internal accounting procedures and controls with discipline and precision.

Ensure ERP systems are optimized for job cost management, revenue recognition, and WIP reporting.

Identify and implement improvements in accounting systems and workflow for greater scalability and repeatability.

Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

Oversee all tax, audit, and regulatory filing processes.

Monitor and ensure compliance with banking covenants and internal policies.

Maintain full audit readiness and drive preparation with a high degree of documentation and thoroughness.

Leadership & Team Oversight

Lead a small, skilled accounting team with an emphasis on performance accountability, process discipline, and integrity.

Coach and mentor team members to achieve accuracy and technical excellence in all accounting functions.

Maintain a high-performance culture rooted in ownership, detail orientation, and ethical decision-making.

Required Experience & Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

10+ years of progressive accounting experience

3+ years in a senior leadership role, ideally in a project-driven or construction environment

Expertise in WIP reporting, construction job costing, and revenue recognition

Deep familiarity with GAAP, internal controls, and project-based financial cycles

Preferred Qualifications

CPA certification strongly preferred

Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance

Experience with ERP systems used in construction (e.g., Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, or similar)

Experience with audit preparation, tax reporting, and corporate governance
