POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The system architect will design and implement architecture solutions that meet business and IT needs. In addition, oversee software and hardware aspects of the system and ensure compliance with project constraints and requirements.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelors of Science in Computer Science, or related field
7+ years of experience in system architecture, including working with various hardware, software, and networks
Extensive experience in large scale design and implementation projects
Masters in Computer Science, or related field (desired)
Experience working with education systems or Department of Education (desired)
CERTIFICATIONS:
TOGAF, Microsoft Certified: Solutions Architect or equivalent
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Define the system architecture, data flow, integration points, and technology stack
Ensure architectural alignment with DOE standards and cybersecurity policies
Collaborate with technical leads, developers, and product teams to ensure architecture feasibility
Guide design decisions including scalability, reliability and maintainability
Ensure system reliability and scalability during high-traffic periods
Verify extensibility of technological architecture to support integration of DOE systems
Evaluate emerging technologies to ensure future-proofing
SKILLS:
Proficient working with .NET 9+ Framework, C#, SQL Server, IIS, REST APIs, Windows Server
Knowledge of DevSecOps principles and security protocols
Ability to work collaboratively with cross functional teams as well as independently
Ability to clearly communicate risks, obstacles, and issues
Excellent analytical skills for monitoring performance and developing effective solutions
