Job Details

Responsibilities:

As a Permanent Controller, you will be tasked with the following responsibilities:

1. Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.

2. Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, program budgets, and actual expenditures.

3. Regularly produce financial reports and statements, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

4. Coordinate and lead the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors.

5. Implement a robust contracts management and financial management/reporting system.

6. Oversee budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash flow for administration, existing programs, and proposed new sites.

7. Monitor progress and changes, keeping senior leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status.

8. Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting.

9. Update and implement all necessary business policies and accounting practices; improve the finance department’s overall policy and procedure manual.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate for the Permanent Controller position should possess the following qualifications:

1. A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance. A CPA or related degree is strongly preferred.

2. At least 5 years of accounting and finance experience, ideally beginning in accounting and audit, followed by experience gathering, evaluating, presenting, and reporting financial information to executive teams and external stakeholders.

3. Experience in a senior financial-management role, partnering with executive staff, resulting in the development and implementation of creative financial management strategies.

4. Significant experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting.

5. Deep knowledge and understanding of the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) rules and standards.

6. Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting a strategic vision into an operational model.

7. Proficiency in MS Excel, QuickBooks, and financial management software.

8. An effective communicator at all levels in the organization, with strong oral and written skills and a willingness to share information.

9. A collaborative and flexible style, with a strong service mentality.

10. A hands-on manager with integrity and a desire to work in a dynamic, mission-driven environment.
