We are currently seeking a Punch Press Setup Manager/Supervisor to oversee all setup activities within our Punch Press Department. This position is responsible for supervising setup technicians, ensuring tooling and equipment readiness, improving operational efficiency, and maintaining a high standard of safety and product quality. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader with extensive experience in punch press operations and team supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Lead daily operations of the punch press setup team, including assigning work, monitoring performance, and ensuring timely, accurate setups.
Oversee tooling setups for progressive and single-hit dies on mechanical presses; verify setup accuracy and readiness for production.
Collaborate with the Tool Room to coordinate die preparation, repairs, and preventative maintenance to minimize downtime.
Train and mentor setup technicians in safe practices, press operation, and efficient changeover techniques.
Evaluate tooling and setup processes, recommending and implementing improvements to reduce setup time and enhance product quality.
Troubleshoot issues related to die alignment, tool fit, or press function during setup or early production runs.
Ensure safety procedures are followed during all setup and press operations; promote a culture of safety and accountability.
Maintain documentation for setup procedures, press configurations, changeover instructions, and maintenance logs.
Work closely with production, quality, and engineering teams to meet daily production goals and resolve technical issues.
Qualifications/Skills
High school diploma or equivalent; technical certificate or associate degree preferred.
5+ years of punch press experience, including setups for progressive and single-hit dies.
In-depth knowledge of press safety, die function, and metal stamping processes.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, part drawings, and setup sheets.
Skilled in using measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, indicators) and inspecting setup quality.
Strong communication, organizational, and leadership abilities.
Commitment to continuous improvement and lean manufacturing principles is a plus.
