Job Description

This position is located on a wild land fire crew as a crew member within the fire management organization. The purpose of the position is wild land fire suppression/management/control, as a specialized firefighter on an engine with the responsibility for the operation and maintenance of specialized tools or equipment. Other wild land fire related duties may involve fire prevention, patrol, detection, or prescribed burning. The incumbent will also be involved with the maintenance and repair of firefighting tools, equipment, and facilities, and will receive firefighting training. As an assistant on an engine, works as a trainee engine operator driving the engine, operating the pump and making hose lays under the direction of the engine foreman. Primary duties are directly connected with the control and extinguishment of fires and/or maintaining and using firefighter apparatus and equipment. The duties of these positions are so rigorous that employment is limited to individuals who meet established physical requirements.

Requirements

A VALID OREGON DRIVER' LICENSE IS REQUIRED. Must be able to pass medical exam and arduous fitness test. Must have a telephone or reliable message phone, and be available and on call 24 hours a day during the fire season. Must also pass a criminal background check with Federal, Tribal and State Law Enforcement. Will also need to submit and pass a pre employment alcohol and drug screening.
