Job Description
Benaiah Consulting Group has been engaged to help a forward-thinking CPA firm build out its newly launched Client Advisory Services (CAS) division. This firm combines the energy and flexibility of a startup with the reputation, resources, and client base of one of the oldest continuously operating CPA firms in the U.S.
The CAS group is designed to go beyond bookkeeping, offering strategic accounting, controllership, and CFO-level insights for small to mid-sized businesses that want to grow.
This Controller / Client Lead role is a key early hire and will serve as a cornerstone in shaping the service model, team structure, and client experience from day one.
Role Overview:
This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for an accounting professional who thrives in a builder environment.
The right candidate will manage a portfolio of client relationships, oversee financial reporting and advisory deliverables, and collaborate closely with internal U.S.-based operations and a seasoned offshore accounting team.
This position requires equal parts tactical execution and strategic insight - a client-facing expert who can own the books and own the room.
Core Responsibilities:
Lead client engagements across a range of industries, serving as the primary controller and financial advisor
Drive onboarding, workflow setup, and implementation of best practices across all new client relationships
Oversee month-end close, compliance reviews, and financial statement preparation across multiple accounts
Collaborate closely with a dedicated offshore accounting team (India-based) to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and client satisfaction
Build and iterate client-specific playbooks, processes, and reporting packages
Deliver financial insight, including KPI tracking, cash flow analysis, and budgeting support
Participate in internal CAS operations strategy and future team-building initiatives
Target Candidate Profile:
8+ years of progressive accounting experience; at least 3–5 years in a Controller or Client Lead role specifically within a CPA, Consulting or other Advisory firm environment - THIS IS A MUST!
Prior experience managing a book of clients in a CAS or outsourced accounting environment (required)
Solid background in accounting operations for businesses in the $1M–$20M range
CPA preferred but not required; candidates with strong accounting acumen and a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance encouraged to apply
Experience managing remote or offshore teams and comfort collaborating across time zones
Hands-on experience with QuickBooks, Bill.com, and reporting tools such as Fathom, Jirav, or similar
Comfortable juggling multiple priorities and presenting financials directly to business owners and leadership teams
Strong process-builder mindset: proactive, tech-forward, and focused on scalable systems
Must reside in or near the Eastern Time Zone; candidates in the New England region preferred for occasional in-person collaboration.
Why This Role Stands Out:
Join a newly launched advisory division at ground level
Help shape firmwide CAS systems, processes, and culture
Work closely with a high-performing founding team that values initiative and ownership
Serve growth-minded clients who appreciate proactive, strategic financial support
Compensation: $120,000–$150,000 base salary + performance bonus
Flexible remote work structure with minimal travel
For experienced Client Controllers or CAS leaders ready to step into a high-impact role with client ownership and autonomy, this is that rare opportunity to help build something great, backed by a team that understands the value of great talent.
