Overview
Modular Medical, Inc. (Nasdaq:MODD) (“Modular” or the “Company”) is a development stage, medical device company focused on the design, development and commercialization of an innovative insulin pump using modernized technology to increase pump adoption in the diabetes marketplace. Through the creation of a novel two-part patch pump, the Company seeks to fundamentally alter the trade-offs between cost and complexity and access to the higher standards of care that presently available insulin pumps provide.
Position Summary
The Controller is responsible for managing the accounting and finance functions, including corporate accounting, financial reporting, tax, Sarbanes-Oxley and other compliance, and financial planning and analysis (FP&A) functions. The Corporate Controller will work closely with the CFO to provide the analytical framework and financial metrics to support informed business decisions. The successful candidate must be an experienced and skilled finance professional with solid technical accounting knowledge, a strong business and operational focus and excellent leadership qualities. As Modular is a small public company, the Controller must be hands-on and will be directly responsible for performing certain period close activities and all reporting and FP&A functions.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for all aspects of accounting operations, including general ledger, monthly and quarterly close processes, accounts payable, payroll, fixed assets, tax, and cost accounting functions; manage an initial staff of one accountant
Responsible for preparation of monthly and quarterly internal financial reporting packages for management, as well as materials for quarterly audit committee and board of directors meetings
Implement accounting policies and internal control systems and procedures over financial operations, ensuring Sarbanes-Oxley 404 compliance while maintaining and driving continuous improvement
Responsible for accounting and operational reporting systems, including the ERP and other reporting systems related to the financial reporting process
Responsible for timely and effective close processes resulting in financial information with highest levels of reliability and integrity
Manage relationship with external auditors for completion of the annual audit and quarterly reviews on a timely basis
Manage payroll and stock administration functions and compliance with all compensation rules
Responsible for FP&A, including preparation of the annual budget and long-term financial projections, and monthly budget vs. actual comparisons
Collaborate and work closely with other departments to identify process improvement, including early detection of potential business and accounting issues

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance, CPA preferred
10+ years of progressively responsible financial function experience
Strong technical accounting skills with detailed understanding of current GAAP, SEC reporting, Sarbanes-Oxley and tax issues
Should be knowledgeable of ERP systems and experience with system implementations (NetSuite Preferred)
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Powerpoint and Word
Strong written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills with various levels within an organization
Ability to multi-task and be hands-on
Experience with hardware and cost accounting; medical-device experience preferred, but not required
Physical Demands
Frequently required to maintain a stationary position, operate computers and other office equipment. On occasion, may be required to lift, carry, push and/or pull objects and materials of light weight (10-15 pounds).
