Job Purpose

Growscape is a leading innovator in the lawn and garden space, known for delivering trend-forward, sustainable grower and decorative planters to an omni-channel environment of growers, major retail partners and end users. We are seeking a results-driven New Business Development leader to spearhead growth initiatives across three core verticals:

Retail On-Shelf Expansion

Retail Live Goods Collaboration

Genetics Owner Partners

This leadership role is ideal for a strategic, relationship-oriented professional with deep retail acumen, commercial creativity, and a proven record of building scalable programs from concept through execution, preferably in the horticultural space, but not required.

Key Responsibilities

1. Retail On-Shelf Business Development

Strategic Planning & Execution

Lead the development of a comprehensive growth strategy for on-shelf placement across national and regional retail chains.

Define executional roadmaps, assign internal ownership, and manage milestone adherence.

Opportunity Assessment & Retailer Targeting

Prioritize retailers based on volume potential (e.g., # of doors avg. shelf space).

Understand retail cycles to optimize timing for line reviews and vendor introductions.

Utilize prospecting tools (e.g., ZoomInfo) to identify key stakeholders and decision-makers.

Presentation Development & Meeting Readiness

Create a compelling “Introduction to Growscape” sales deck, including our decorative and grower product portfolio, innovation roadmap, and retail success stories.

Coordinate internal teams on meeting preparation, agendas, and sample support.

Retail Engagement & Line Reviews

Facilitate initial buyer meetings focused on educating retailers about Growscape’s capabilities.

Lead comprehensive line reviews with visuals (POGs), trend insights, cost/retail frameworks, and volume forecasts.

Relationship Management & Reporting

Build and maintain relationships with senior-level merchant teams.

Maintain a KPI-driven tracker and deliver consistent progress updates to leadership.

2. Retail Live Goods Business Development

Strategic Design & Prioritization

Develop a retail-live-goods strategy to enhance Growscape’s penetration through partnerships between retailers and plant growers.

Focus on high-priority accounts: Lowe’s, Walmart (U.S. & Canada), and The Home Depot Canada.

Retailer & Grower Model Evaluation

Analyze retailer-supplier structures (e.g., exclusivity, matrix models) and their grower relationships.

Position Growscape as the preferred potting partner via promotional incentives and curated assortments.

Execution Alignment with Grower Sales Team

Post-approval, coordinate outreach to growers supplying these retailers in collaboration with internal sales leads.

Develop grower-facing presentations tailored to program needs.

Pipeline Management & Escalation

Track all retailer-grower engagement in HubSpot.

Provide weekly pipeline reports and surface critical opportunities requiring executive attention.

3. Genetics Owner Business Development

Top-Down Market Penetration Strategy

Craft and execute a business development plan aimed at genetic IP owners and plant licensors.

Apply proven frameworks from live goods partnerships to this vertical.

Engagement & Opportunity Mapping

Prioritize a target list based on genetics companies’ market influence and potential volume.

Present a compelling case for Growscape as their container partner of choice.

Pipeline Development & Strategic Reporting

Track all communications, opportunities, and partner progress in HubSpot.

Provide regular reporting and escalate strategic partnership opportunities as needed.

Bachelor’s degree required in Business or related field; MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred.

10+ years of experience in sales, business development, or category management in consumer products, preferably within lawn & garden or horticulture.

Proven success building relationships with national retailers and supplier networks.

Deep understanding of line review processes, buyer behavior, and vendor matrix management.

Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation development skills.

Highly proficient in CRM platforms (HubSpot preferred), Microsoft Office Suite, and digital prospecting tools.
