Job Summary:

The Measurement Systems Engineer will ensure that measurement systems used to measure product and processes at IFA conform to applicable internal and external (customer) requirements. The Measurement Systems Engineer will develop, maintain, and improve measurement systems for existing and new product. The Measurement System Engineer will develop, lead, and improve the gauge calibration and measurement system analysis (MSA) processes and will provide direction to the Gauge Lab Technician under general supervision.

Essential Functions:

Assist in maintaining the safety standards for all operations in assigned work areas.

Utilize knowledge of internal and external requirements to develop calibration and MSA procedures and requirements for all applicable measurement systems.

Utilize knowledge of GD&T, gauges, measurement methods and applicable requirements to select adequate measurement systems for various product and process measurements.

Participate in the development of control plans and inspection plans to ensure that measurement systems meeting internal and external requirements are selected and available.

Collaborate with manufacturing and quality engineering to ensure that existing measurement systems comply with applicable internal and external requirements.

Collaborate with manufacturing and quality engineering in the design, validation and implementation of new measurement systems to ensure compliance with applicable internal and external requirements.

Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing personnel at all levels to ensure a sufficient inventory of gauges is available to meet production and quality demands.

Monitor the gauge control system (Engage) and provide guidance to applicable personnel to ensure that calibrations and MSA studies are performed on time.

Ensure that external service providers are adequately qualified to perform calibrations for IFA and provide acceptable documentation (certificates of calibration).

Ensure accurate records are generated and retained for all measurement system activities.

Effectively communicate with personnel at all levels, including written and verbal communications, to train and ensure understanding of measurement related processes.

Lead audit related activities associated with measurement systems.

Lead the analysis and estimation measurement uncertainty for laboratory measurement methods.

Perform laboratory housekeeping activities to ensure compliance with 5S requirements.

All employees are responsible for having an awareness and understanding of IFA’s commitment to IATF 16949 and ISO 14001.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Specific Skills:

Advanced understanding of AIAG measurement system analysis (MSA) methods and requirements

Ability to read and interpret drawings including an advanced understanding of GD&T

Advanced understanding of measurement equipment (gauges), methods, and practices

Ability to create effective requests for quotations for unique measurement systems

Understanding of different methods to estimate measurement uncertainty

Working knowledge of metric and English units of measure

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to lead with cross-functional teams

Apply existing knowledge of work processes and procedures in analyzing data and determining solutions and/or actions.

Demonstrated ability to plan and organize and carry out work activities while supporting internal and external customers.

Understanding of IRNA Quality Management System (QMS) as applicable to assign area of responsibility.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopies, filling cabinets and fax machines. This job will also be exposed to manufacturing environment, such as production lines, power industrial trucks, and/or other manufacturing machines.

Must be able to walk/move about a 200,000 sq ft manufacturing facility: 100% of the time

Must be able to stand/walk/move about specific work area: 90% of the time

Must be able to bend/reach/twist/stoop: 70% of the time

Must be able to lift 40lbs on a frequent basis: 40% of the time

Must be able to sit at a work station: 50% of the time

Must be able to work and operate a computer terminal: 80% of the time

Vision is required to analyze and process work; and to work on computer terminal/machine centers, etc.

Hearing is essential for safety reasons; and to communicate with employees, supervisors, managers, vendors, suppliers and customers via conversation, group meetings, and/or phone conferences.
