TITLE: Early Learning Coordinator & Family Resource Manager — Ages 0-6

REPORTS TO: Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Student Programs and/or designee

POSITION START DATE: July 1, 2025

FTE: .75 - 6 hrs/day - 190 Workday Calendar (Up to 25 Additional Flex days during Summer)

PURPOSE

To assist the Sherwood School District in developing and implementing a coordinated, culturally responsive, and effective early learning system in Sherwood; to ensure all children ages birth through six and their families are stable, healthy, and prepared for educational and life success.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives supervision from Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Student Programs and/or designee. Exercises no supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS

A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent

Ability to speak, read, and write Spanish is strongly preferred.

Knowledge of practices in the student’s native language and culture

Knowledge of basic math and reading skills

Ability to interpret educational and social needs of language minority and/or another language students

Excellent communication, organizational and management skills with the ability to prioritize and organize workload demands

Ability to work effectively with families and children of diverse cultures

Ability to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions

Complete work within established timelines

Proficient English usage, grammar and punctuation skills

Basic technology skills

Communicate with appropriate student age group requiring empathetic approaches

Flexible and able to work harmoniously with others

Knowledge of best practices in Early Learning environments

Familiarity with typical child development and guidance strategies

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensure families of children ages 0 through 6 residing within Sherwood School District boundaries are knowledgeable about available Early Learning & Family Resource Services

Secure space and coordinate Early Learning and Family events and trainings as needed

Write and maintain grants specific to Early Learning, Family Resources and closet revitalization

Support the registration process for Pre-K

Support Pre-K teams and coordinate regular meetings

Serve as the liaison for communication with community partners to early learning team members

Coordinate the clothing closet, including volunteers and donations

Participate in professional development opportunities, particularly those emphasizing preschool through third grade (P-3) alignment and early childhood development, including linguistics, cognition, and physical and socio-emotional wellness

Work with Washington County Early Learning Community Hub (WCELCH) staff to develop and support a county-wide framework that will ensure integration of common core state standards with early learning programs

Work with WCELCH staff to develop additional resources for implementing universal interventions, messaging, and strategies – in community, early learning, and school settings – that will support parents/caregivers, strengthen preschool through third grade alignment, and facilitate the successful transition of children into kindergarten

Refer families to appropriate community service agencies and provide direct services as needed through the District’s Family Resource Center

Attend community outreach events

Develop quarterly communication plan for distribution of early learning messaging that will reach families with at-risk children ages 0 through 6

Perform home visits as necessary

Communicate effectively with parents, including English/foreign language translation

Work effectively in a team situation by demonstrating cross-cultural communication skills

Demonstrate the ability to acquire new skills and obtain new information necessary to work effectively with families

Provide clerical support and simple maintenance and operation of school district equipment and supplies

Submit quarterly demographic reports to WCELCH staff

Flex time to include evening or weekend hours for Early Learning events and outreach

Participate in Teaching and Learning weekly meetings

Train and coordinate SHARE center volunteers

Other duties as assigned

EVALUATION

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between Sherwood School District 88J and Oregon School Employees Association Chapter #103.
