The Opportunity:

The Cambridge Rindge and Latin School seeks a Guidance Counselor, Grades 9-12, to join our caring and innovative community. The successful candidate will have experience working with adolescents. A candidate with teaching experience is preferred. They will have an understanding of and experience with guidance and counseling activities. As a professional, the guidance counselor will display a collegial spirit that supports and enhances continual professional growth consistent with the educational goals and philosophies of our school community. Moreover, they will be fully committed to continuously learning, improving, reflecting and working together to ensure that all students achieve at high levels.

Please note that these positions are currently only funded for the 2025-2026 school year, with the possibility to extend based on funding availability.

Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with all team members, including but not limited to, other guidance counselors, school psychologists and social workers, teachers, administrators, special educators, instructional coaches, paraprofessionals, interventionists, and other support personnel.

Work to foster a safe, caring, and active learning community.

Partner with families and include them in the students’ learning and development as well as encourage families to further the mission of the school.

Build on established partnerships with surrounding community institutions and organizations.

Facilitate transitions and counsel all students toward the realization of their full educational potential.

Establish a culture of high expectations that includes the shared belief that every student will pursue a dignified next step.

Develop, collect, analyze and interpret data.

Organize and integrate pre-college guidance and counseling into the guidance program.

Communicate regularly with students and families and involve families as partners in their child’s education.

Identify unique student needs and collaborate with team members to effectively address those needs .

Facilitate i-decide student training sessions.

Any other related duties as assigned.

Your Skill Set:

As the incoming Guidance Counselor, you will possess many, though perhaps not all, of the following characteristics and qualifications:

Understanding of and experience with guidance and counseling activities.

Previous experience working with adolescents. Teaching experience preferred.

Experience working with a multicultural student population in an urban school setting.

Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree strongly preferred.

Massachusetts DESE Certification: School Counselor required.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, alongside the ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with a diverse staff and student body.

A strong work ethic, alongside a commitment to doing whatever it takes for students to excel.

Possess and demonstrate exemplary counseling and communication skills.

Demonstrate appropriate ethical behavior and professional conduct in the fulfillment of role and responsibilities.
