Borough of Wyomissing Deputy Fire Chief The Borough of Wyomissing in Berks County, PA is excited to announce the opening of a hiring process for the position of Deputy Fire Chief.
We are looking for an experienced, self-motivated individual with excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills to join our team as the Deputy Fire Chief.
As the Deputy Fire Chief, your essential duties & responsibilities include but are not limited to assisting with the daily operations and management of the department,command and control of incident operations, assisting with recruitment and retention efforts, and Community Risk Reduction activities covering code enforcement, public relations, and fire origin and cause investigations.
Applicants for this position should have recent and relevant experience as a fire officer coupled with strong leadership skills.

Deputy Fire Chief Minimum Experience Requirements: 1.
Possess a High School Diploma or G.E.D., bachelor’s degree (preferred) from an accredited institution in Fire Science, Public Administration, or discipline related to the fire service.
2.
Experience in all phases of fire protection including prevention and administration.
3.
Experience working with career and volunteer firefighters/departments.
4.
10 years of recent and progressively responsible experience in a career or combination fire department.
5.
Hold the rank of Company Officer or higher.
Deputy Fire Chief Required Certifications: 1.
Valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver’s License (if out of state, must obtain PA license within six (6) months of hire) 2.
NFPA 1021 Fire Officer III 3.
NFPA 1041 Fire Instructor I 4.
NFPA 1031 Fire Inspector I 5.
ICS 300, 400, IS-700, IS-800 6.

The written examination is scheduled for Saturday July 26, 2025, at 9:00 am, being held at the Wyomissing Area Jr/Sr High School, 630 Evans Avenue, Wyomissing, PA 19610.
Doors will open at 8:30 am and lock at 8:55 am.
No one will be permitted to enter after the doors have been locked.
Eligible applicants will be notified by email with an official invitation to the written examination including a study list.
Applicants who successfully pass the written examination will be notified by email with an invitation to participate in the panel interview portion of the process.
This is an FSLA exempt management-level position scheduled for 40 hours per week, a salary range of $90,000 to $100,000 depending on qualifications, and includes an excellent benefits package.
This position is subject to a 12-month probationary period.
