Job Summary:
The Reading Intervention Teacher will provide targeted instruction and support to students who require additional reading interventions, particularly those with special education needs. This role involves collaborating with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to ensure student success. The teacher will utilize evidence-based instructional strategies to enhance students' literacy skills and meet their individualized education program (IEP) goals. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Provide direct reading intervention services to students with identified reading difficulties, including those with IEPs.
Develop and implement individualized and small-group reading instruction based on assessment data and student needs.
Utilize research-based literacy strategies and programs to support students in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
Monitor and track student progress through formal and informal assessments, adjusting instruction as needed.
Collaborate with classroom teachers, special education staff, and other support personnel to integrate intervention strategies into the general education curriculum.
Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of appropriate literacy goals and accommodations.
Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student achievements and areas of growth.
Provide professional development and support to staff on best practices in reading instruction and intervention.
Stay updated on current research and trends in reading intervention and special education strategies.
Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations related to special education and student intervention services.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree Education, Special Education, Reading, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Valid state teaching certification in Special Education.
Experience in reading intervention, literacy instruction, or special education.
Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation.
Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
Ability to adapt and differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students.
Proficiency in using technology to support reading instruction and progress monitoring.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with diverse student populations, including English Language Learners and students with disabilities.
Valid state teaching certification in Special Education and/or Reading Endorsement.
Training in Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) or Response to Intervention (RTI) frameworks.
Familiarity with assistive technology and digital tools for literacy development.
Experience working in underserved/low-income communities
