The Artificial Perception & Threat Awareness (APTA) division at SARA is making the future of Aerospace and Autonomy happen now, with a charter to create new and emerging sensor perception technologies for Commercial & Military markets. Our innovative technologies include RF, optical and acoustic sensors enabled with innovative embedded algorithms, machine learning and robust networking.
SARA is looking for a remarkably talented, motivated, and experienced Backend Development Engineer to support activities out of our Cypress, CA location. We are looking for a software engineer who be responsible for transitioning safety-critical sensor processing to a cloud-based environment. The candidate will have the opportunity to grow and learn with talented engineers, physicists, and technicians on long-standing programs and new programs supporting our customers.
Core Responsibilities:
Design, implement, test, and maintain backend software applications in a cloud environment
Develop and deploy scalable, secure software solutions using cloud-native architectures
(Optional/Desired) Develop web-based GUIs for visualization and control of sensor systems
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or related technical field
5+ years’ experience creating distributed or cloud-based software applications
Proficient in Python and experienced with AWS cloud services (e.g. Lambda, Kinesis, EC2, EFS)
Working knowledge of C++ and/or C
Familiarity with implementing security best practices in cloud-based software applications
Strong skills in software design, version control (e.g. GIT), testing, and documentation
US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
May require light physical effort, involving standing, sitting and use of hands while performing duties, carrying or lifting up to 10 pounds
Working environment is indoor, moderately quiet, reasonably clean, well-lighted and well-ventilated
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or related technical field
10+ years’ experience creating distributed software applications
Experience with web development frameworks (e.g. React, Angular, Flask, Django)
Experience with IoT development and ISO 30141
Familiarity with RTCA DO-178C and RTCA DO-254
Programming experience in Matlab, LabVIEW, Julia, and VHDL
Active DoD security clearance

Pay Range
Salary at SARA is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual’s particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $125,000 to $150,000 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of SARA’s total compensation package for employees. Positions are on-site, unless indicated otherwise.
