JOB SUMMARY: The Respiratory Care Department lead is a Registered Respiratory Therapist who is accountable for coordinating the delivery of therapeutic Respiratory Care Services for inpatients and ambulatory patients at Hancock Regional Hospital and Health Services. This person is responsible for providing supervision and leadership for respiratory care professionals and for ensuring qualified resources and available, including being part of the master staffing plan, to meet patient care needs and satisfy labor expense requirements, achieving goals in clinical, financial and patient satisfaction outcomes and through demonstration of the hospital mission, values, and leadership procedures set forth by the hospital and department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinates patient care and services to assure care is delivered according to AARC, hospital and department standards.
Maintains a schedule that meets hospital census demands.
Fosters team building communicates clinical or operational concerns to Director of Respiratory Services and participates in development and implementation of an improvement plan.
Evaluates staff performance for competency and professionalism and takes corrective action when needed.
Establishes and implements departmental and hospital Continuous Improvement Plan.
Participates in interviewing prospective candidates for open or new department positions.
Employs strategies that achieve open and effective communication to each respiratory associate.
Facilitates team building within the department using management strategies such as organizational development initiatives, staff participation in departmental development and interactions with associates that demonstrate fairness, foster trust, and build morale.
Provides orientation and continuing education of staff to support program excellence and maintain compliance with state and federal rules and regulations.
Assists associates to set and evaluate achievement of annual professional goals and strategies.
Provides ongoing communication to associates concerning achievement of individual and department goals.
Offers clinical expertise within the department and to other hospital departments.
Plans staffing, assumes on call duties and allocates work assignments to achieve clinical outcomes and adhere to planned man-hour utilization and budgeted dollars.
Identifies and facilitates implementation of operational and/or clinical practice improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of the department and reduce expenses.
Assist Director of Respiratory Services in budget preparation and monitoring.
Identifies and reports/addresses situations of risk within the department.
Monitors performance and processes to assure that practice, supplies, and equipment are consistent with safety principles, OSHA guidelines, Infection Control Guidelines, and hospital policies/procedures.
Takes prompt corrective action when practice, supplies or equipment are identified as a risk factor to patients, guests, or associates. Completes follow up on Recall Notices.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
ADDITIONAL LICENSURE/CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Successful completion of an approved Respiratory Care program.
Credentialed or eligible by the National Board for Respiratory Care Licensed by the State of Indiana Must maintain current licensure by completing all educational requirements through the State of Indiana.
Must obtain ACLS within 6 months of hire and remain current.
Must obtain PALS and NRP within 1 year of hire and remain current.
ADDITIONAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
The associate will have a minimum of three (5) years’ experience with a variety of populations preferred, and who has shown experience demonstrated leadership skills in the hospital environment with previous supervisory experience preferred.
Mandatory Annual Continuing Education: Customer Service, Fire and Safety, Confidentiality-HIPAA, Infection Control, Corporate Compliance.
Annual Unit Specific Competencies, and all education required by regulatory, accreditation bodies and/or Hancock Regional Hospital.
