POSITION: DIRECTOR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Classification: Unlicensed Staff

Terms of Employment: Full Time - 209 Days

FLSA STATUS: NON-EXEMPT

This is an unlicensed position assigned to the classified salary schedule.

Position Summary:

The Director of Information Technology is responsible for providing strategic vision, leadership, and management for all technology-related initiatives within the school district. This role encompasses the planning, implementation, maintenance, and support of all district-wide hardware, software, network infrastructure, data systems, and telecommunications. The Director will ensure that technology effectively supports the district's educational mission, administrative operations, and strategic goals, while maintaining a secure and reliable IT environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership & Planning:

Develop and implement a comprehensive district-wide technology plan that aligns with the district's educational and operational objectives.

Research, evaluate, and recommend new technologies to enhance teaching, learning, and administrative efficiency.

Lead the development of long-range technology goals and initiatives.

Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in education and IT.

Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

Team Management & Development:

Supervise, mentor, and evaluate IT staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment.

Identify professional development opportunities for IT staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.

Delegate tasks effectively and manage project timelines.

Infrastructure & Systems Management:

Oversee the design, installation, configuration, and maintenance of all district network infrastructure (LAN/WAN, wireless).

Manage servers, storage solutions, and data backup/recovery systems.

Ensure the reliable operation of all district-wide software applications, including Student Information Systems (SIS), Learning Management Systems (LMS), and administrative software.

Develop and implement robust cybersecurity measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, data encryption, and user access controls.

Manage district telecommunications systems (VOIP).

Budget & Procurement:

Develop and manage the IT budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.

Oversee the procurement of all hardware, software, and IT services, negotiating contracts and managing vendor relationships.

Identify cost-saving opportunities and optimize technology investments.

Support & Training:

Establish and oversee a help desk system to provide timely and effective technical support to staff and students.

Develop and deliver technology training programs for staff, ensuring effective utilization of district technology resources.

Provide technical support for major district events and initiatives.

Data Management & Security:

Ensure the integrity, security, and privacy of all district data, adhering to relevant regulations (e.g., FERPA, COPPA).

Develop and implement data governance policies and procedures.

Oversee data reporting and analysis to support district decision-making.

Collaboration & Communication:

Collaborate effectively with district administration, principals, teachers, and other stakeholders to understand technology needs and integrate technology into all aspects of district operations.

Communicate technical information clearly and effectively to non-technical audiences.

Represent the district on technology-related committees and initiatives. Qualifications:

Preferred Education: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Educational Technology, or a related field.

Preferred Experience:

Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in IT management.

Experience in a K-12 educational environment is highly preferred.

Proven experience with network administration, server management, cybersecurity, and data management.

Skills & Abilities:

Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

In-depth knowledge of current and emerging educational technologies.

Proficiency in network protocols, operating systems (Windows Server, Linux), virtualization technologies, and cloud platforms.

Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Commitment to fostering a positive and innovative technology culture. Working Conditions:

Primarily office environment, with occasional travel to school and construction sites within the district.

May require evening and weekend work to address critical IT issues or implement system upgrades.

Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent

Ability to lift and move computer equipment up to 50 pounds.
