Job Description

The Peer Mentor with lived experience who has successfully transitioned from ADVP into CIE will provide motivation and encouragement for current ADVP recipients to explore and prepare for CIE. The Peer Mentor will serve as ambassadors for ADVP and in lieu of services as they work directly and indirectly with ADVP and in lieu of participants to tell the story of VR services, how others can access these services and reach their competitive integrated employment goals. Such mentors are proud of their personal journey and are willing and capable to share lessons learned with others to help them succeed as well.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB AND ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:

Direct Duties:

Adheres to Wake Enterprises Code of Ethics at all times.

Assures that no person is subject to abuse, neglect, and/or exploitation.

Recognizes obligation to immediately report any suspected abuse, neglect, and/or exploitation.

Serve as advocate and spokesperson for the benefits of Competitive Integrated Employment in recorded, live, and/or virtual environments.

Speak as requested to individuals, groups, and their guardians on the benefits of CIE.

Answer questions regarding individual experiences with transitioning from ADVP to CIE.

Share and answer questions regarding individual experiences regarding their journey to CIE and the DVRS services that assisted them in that journey.

Prepare and practice information to be shared and responses to interview questions or planned agendas with SPARK Navigator.

Communicate directly with individuals who may have additional questions during the scheduled outreach to other forums.

Attend all mandatory agency trainings and attend all trainings and meetings as scheduled.

Documents time worked accurately.

Other duties as assigned by management.

Other Responsibilities:

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with participants, staff and other professionals.

Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, procedures, and applicable laws.

Communicates effectively in oral and written form. Reads, analyzes, and interprets participant data. Applies common sense to solve problems.

Follows and enforces safety regulations, including OSHA requirements.

Dresses appropriately for the workplace.

Maintains a neat and clean work area. Completes cleaning duties around the building and on the grounds as assigned.

Receive referrals, conduct initial interviews, and develop service plans.

Respects and maintains the confidentiality of participant information.

Observes work hours and is punctual for appointments and meetings.

Education and Experience:

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Be at least 18 years of age.

Must have clean background record.

Must pass a drug screening prior to hire; and randomly thereafter.

Valid North Carolina Driver’s License with clean Driving Record and proof of current insurance.

Must have NCI CORE certification.

May be required to receive Hepatitis B Immunization.

May be required to obtain First Aid Certification/CPR.

May be required to have Medication Administration Certification.

May be required to have Valid NC Driver’s License with clean Driving Record and proof of current insurance.

May be required to have NCI CORE certification.

May be required to receive Hepatitis B Immunization.

May be required to obtain First Aid Certification/CPR.

May be required to have Medication Administration Certification.

Strong belief in CIE for individuals with IDD.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Ability to orally communicate with or without accommodations, about his or her journey to CIE and/or transition from ADVP to CIE with the target audience.

Ability to become familiar with questions and responses as well as rehearse with SPARK Navigator or other identified individuals in preparation for ADVP Outreach Counseling virtually or in person or other mentoring/speaking obligations.

Ability to work as a member of a team.

Ability to maintain appropriate workplace demeanor and demonstrate interest in helping individuals make an informed choice about working with DVRS to reach CIE.

Travel as needed to perform job duties.

The job candidate must have lived experience as a past recipient of VR or ADVP services and be currently maintaining CIE.

Must be willing to earn Peer Support Certification within one year of hire date. Intermediate or advanced level proficiency in the use of standard desktop applications, including the ability to produce documents and presentations of all kinds using word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software tools.
