The Biloxi Housing Authority (“BHA”) is seeking an experienced Housing Inspector to join our team! The primary purpose of this position is to schedule inspections and inspect housing units and systems to relevant quality standards for BHA’s housing programs.
All activities must support the Biloxi Housing Authority (“BHA” or “Authority”) mission, strategic goals, and objectives.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conducts Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) inspections, including quality control, annual, initial, and other inspections on housing portfolio units.
Conducts complaint and follow-up inspections, records and escalates results as necessary.
Conducts quality control inspections at all properties.
Assists in resolution of tenant complaints and conducts special investigations at the request of BHA supervisory staff.
Plans efficient inspection routes, appropriately prioritizes inspections and other tasks.
Reviews all HCV inspections on a daily basis and ensures timely completion based on HUD guidelines. Enters inspection results into the system and monitors follow-up inspections.
Prints and mails from letters to program participants, including landlords, regarding any repairs notes during inspections.
Compiles monthly reports outlining the number of inspections and re-inspections for HCV and housing portfolio units.
Maintains files, including records of all inspections, follow up inspections, notices and related documents.
Assists in training property management staff on quality standards and housekeeping inspections.
Maintains logs related to annual inspections, including but not limited to fire sprinkler inspections, fire extinguisher inspections, elevator and boiler inspections.
Performs related duties as required.
Requirements
Associate’s degree or higher and two (2) years hands-on experience, or certificate of completion of technical school training and five years hands-on experience. Hands-on experience shall be in building construction, building code enforcement, property maintenance or inspection; or
Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which, in the sole determination of the Housing Authority, provides the required knowledge and abilities, may be considered sufficient.
