JOB SUMMARY
Analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, set up and operate machine tools, and fit and assemble parts to make and repair dies, cutting and forging tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and hand tools.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION
Under general supervision and without technical guidance, other than engineering input, performs the most difficult development work. Plans, designs, constructs or repairs a wide variety of highly intricate and complicated tools, dies, jigs, gauges, fixtures, to extremely close tolerances; down to .0001”
Constructs tools where no design is available.
Selects allowances and devises mechanism detail.
Does highly skilled tool fitting, adjusting, and timing.
Performs any tool room machine operation including but not limited mills, lathes, grinders, profile grinders, heat treatment and annealing
Works from complicated drawings and sketches.
Uses advanced shop mathematics and all types of precision measuring instruments.
Typical work products include multi-station progressive dies, intricate compound dies of irregular shape, sub-press dies for parts of delicate outline and complex index milling fixtures.
Experience with cold heading tooling is a plus
Willing to train a qualified candidate to assemble, construct and modify high speed & carbide header tooling.
Observes all safety rules.
Maintains a neat and well-organized work area.

SKILLS and ABILITIES
Strong technical and analytical ability.
Capable of using standard tools and measurement devices (GD&T) such as micrometers, scales, rulers, depth gauges and calipers.
Ability to interpret job orders, blueprints, quality specifications, and other related documents.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Strong math and mechanical reasoning skills.
Ability to contribute as part of a team.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Tool and die maker, typically requiring trade school and five or more years of tool room experience, or equivalent.
5+ years of experience in tight tolerance tool making experience.
5+ years setting and operating manual lathe and mill machines.
