Title: Animal Research Technician Location: Rockville, MD Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM Type: 5-Month Contract Pay: $25–$30/hour (negotiable depending on experience) Start Date: Immediate Position Overview: We’re hiring an experienced Animal Technician to provide short-term coverage for a maternity leave.

This is a 5-month contract with potential for limited overlap at the end.

The ideal candidate is fully trained in rodent handling and tumor measurement techniques—we need someone who can step in and contribute right away with minimal ramp-up.

No surgical work is involved, but attention to detail and comfort with routine animal care in a fast-paced environment are essential.

Responsibilities: Measure and document tumor growth in rodents using calipers and other approved methods.

Handle, restrain, and identify rodents (mice and rats) in accordance with study protocols and SOPs.

Perform daily health checks and report abnormalities or clinical signs to the veterinary or supervisory team.

Provide husbandry support including food, water, enrichment, and cage maintenance.

Administer prescribed medications or treatments under supervision.

Maintain accurate animal census, health records, and study data logs.

Prepare and label cage cards, sample tubes, and documentation as required.

Follow all SOPs and safety procedures related to animal care and facility maintenance.

Clean and sanitize work areas, equipment, and housing units according to schedule.

Humanely euthanize animals per approved protocols when required.

Qualifications: B.S.

in Animal Science, Biology, or a related field preferred but not required.

AALAS ALAT certification preferred (required within 18 months of hire if not already held). Mandatory experience working with rodents including: Tumor measurement Handling and restraint Identification methods Basic technical skills (e.g., injections, dosing, sample collection) Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently in a fast-paced research environment.

Ability to maintain clear and accurate records and follow detailed protocols.
