Our client, a well-established and growing organization in the Greater Grand Rapids area, is seeking a seasoned Controller to lead their accounting operations with strategic insight and a hands-on leadership approach.

As Controller, you'll serve as a key financial steward of the organization, overseeing internal reporting, compliance with GAAP standards, and leading a dynamic accounting team.
You'll partner directly with senior leadership to align financial operations with broader business goals, delivering analysis that drives informed decision-making.

Key Responsibilities: Lead, mentor, and manage the accounting team and Accounts Payable Supervisor, fostering a positive and accountable work environment.
Oversee the monthly and annual financial close process for all operating entities.
Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and internal policies.
Manage and optimize financial systems for the preparation of internal and external financial statements.
Establish, maintain, and enhance accounting policies and internal control procedures.
Analyze financial data and provide actionable insights and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
Collaborate with FP&A to support the preparation of the annual operating plan.
Lead and participate in process improvement initiatives across accounting and reporting functions.
Conduct special projects and support cross-functional initiatives as needed.
Required Qualifications: Minimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, with supervisory responsibility.
Expert-level knowledge of accounting fundamentals and accounts payable processes.
Strong command of GAAP and corporate financial reporting standards.
Demonstrated leadership and team development experience.
High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems.
Strong analytical mindset with excellent attention to detail.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
Self-motivated, process-oriented, and capable of thriving in an agile, growth-focused environment.
Preferred Attributes: Experience in a multi-entity operating environment.
Exposure to ERP system implementation or upgrades.
CPA or CMA certification (preferred, not required). Background in manufacturing, distribution, or operational finance.
Experience working closely with FP&A and executive teams on budgeting and forecasting.
