Summary
The Assistant Controller assists the Controller in maintaining and enforcing the Bank’s internal controls and prepares financial information and financial reports to determine or maintain records of assets, liabilities, profit and loss and other financial activities within the organization. The Assistant Controller is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Bank’s accounting organization, including the general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, fixed assets, prepaids and other critical areas. The Assistant Controller also is responsible for the management of the Bank’s monthly, quarterly and annual close processes.
Responsibilities
Areas of Focus
Management of the monthly close process/checklist and ensure adherence to timelines and deliverables.
Timely review and approval of daily and monthly journal entries.
Review and approval of daily, weekly and monthly reconciliations.
Review and approval of weekly accounts payable payments while ensuring all payments are in accordance with policies and procedures.
Review and approval of certain wire payments.
Review and approval of weekly employee expense reimbursement/company card submissions and payments.
Review and approval of payroll.
Oversees, reviews and approves the Bank’s commissions calculations. Establishes systems and controls to verify accuracy of calculations.
Ensures the accuracy and completeness of accruals.
Review and approval of the Bank’s investments entries. Ensures accuracy of data and reconciles balances to the Bank’s bond keeper and safekeepers.
Ensure accuracy of the prepaids subledger.
Ensure accuracy of the fixed assets subledger, including reasonableness of depreciation lives and calculations.
Assist in addressing issues and questions regarding payroll from Bank team members.
Review and approve calculations of tax withholdings on stock award vestings, where applicable.
Reviews schedules to track and ensure monthly vendors are paid on time.
Confirmation and setup of new AP vendors.
Review and approval of 1099s annually.
Administers Concur system and ensures users are added and removed in a timely manner.
Administers the period integrity of the Bank’s stock compensation reporting system.
Assists in the management of the annual financial audit, reviews and internal audits, including the preparation and review of information provided to auditors.
Assists in the preparation of the Bank’s annual audited financial statements and footnotes.
Provides information to the Bank’s tax accountants used for the preparation of tax provisions and deferred tax balance adjustments.
Responsible for the preparation, review and timely filing of certain regulatory reports.
Reviews the monthly variance analysis and assists in the preparation of the Bank’s internal financial reporting package.
Maintains tracking systems and prepares entries related to the capitalization of certain costs associated with internally developed software.
Responsible for supervision of certain accounting staff.
Additional Areas of Focus
Serve as backup for the preparation of payroll.
Preparing various monthly financial reports and adhoc reports that support business decisions.
Assists in the implementation of new software systems.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting.
Strong knowledge and experience in interpreting and applying GAAP.
Master’s Degree and CPA License strongly preferred.
5-8+ years of progressively responsible and relative experience.
Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience.
Experience in public accounting and industry are strongly preferred.
Expert in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
Proficient in the use of general ledger software systems.
Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Strong reconciliation skills.
Strong organizational time management skills, problem-solving skills, and the ability to quickly grasp concepts and processes with limited guidance from management.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Must be able to work in a team environment with the ability to interact well, and in a positive manner, with co-workers and management.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Reporting Structure: This position reports the Vice President, Controller
Office Requirements: This position is required to be in the Centennial, CO office at least 3-4 day per week.
