Description
Plan and managing the College's cyclical financial activities and systems in accordance with state and federal regulations, operational policies and procedures, accepted accounting practices and principles, and good business practices to meet the College's goals and objectives. Serve as a resource for all departments/divisions with respect to financial and budgetary activities.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities (include, but not limited to)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage and monitor day-to-day operations of the Financial Accounting Services (FAS) department. Review accounting transactions, approve documents, and perform intermittent analysis to detect and correct errors.
Direct and oversee FAS department through management of direct reporting staff and assisting with the management of all departmental staff including day-to-day supervision, hiring, training, evaluating, developing, and disciplining as needed.
Assist the VP in the management of institutional investment portfolios, including performance monitoring and strategy alignment. Evaluate and forecast cash flow to ensure liquidity, support operational needs, and inform strategic financial decisions.
Plan coordinate, and prepare monthly and annual required financial statements and reports, indirect cost rates, and other financial/cost analysis. This includes preparation and coordination of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and the annual audit process.
Assist the VP with budget development and monitoring, including preparing projections, tracking expenditures, and analyzing variances to support informed financial decision-making.
Review, implement, and maintain internal college policies and procedures to ensure proper internal controls, security, and compliance with applicable requirements while optimizing workflow and efficiencies. This includes making recommendations for procedural improvements.
Create, extract, and analyze data using College supporting technology, including report writing tools and spreadsheets.
Maintain current professional and technical knowledge in the field through professional education and activities. Know and stay current on related laws and regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of strategic plan development and budget preparation
High level of experience and expertise in accounting theories and governmental accounting principles and techniques
Strong organizational, time management, analytical, and planning skills
Effective interpersonal communication skills - oral, written and listening
Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with internal (staff, management, personnel) and external contacts (clients and vendors)
Intermediate level of proficiency with computer software such as: work processing, spreadsheets, databases, and/or presentations. Intermediate level of knowledge with internet, web technologies, electronic mail, and current operating systems. EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
MBA, CPA (Certified Public Accountant), CIA (Certified Internal Auditor), or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) preferred
Three years of work experience in public accounting and/or governmental accounting field with a combination of governmental and public preferred
Three years of experience in a supervisory and/or management role
Experience with computerized financial software systems and technology for analysis and reporting Supplemental Information
