Description of Work
The Retirement Systems Division is hiring Retirement Benefits Education Supervisor to ensure the staff is prepared to explain and interpret the benefits programs administered by the Retirement Systems Division which include counseling, researching, mediating, and resolving problems. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits, including health insurance, paid vacation, paid sick time, paid holidays, as well as retirement.
About Us
The Member Services Section of the Retirement Systems Division is to provide the full range of retirement education, correspondence services and training for all members and employers concerning retirement and disability benefits, statutory provisions, new legislation and information supporting the effectiveness of these efforts. The Member Services Department is critical to the operation of RSD in making sure the delivery of technical benefit information and the interpretation of laws, rules, policies and practices are accurate and in alignment with what is in the best interest of the members and for the agency. Member Services includes the Call Center and the Education Retirement Group, Specialty Plans, and Imaging groups.
The Retirement Benefits Education Supervisor provides supervisory, administrative, and consultative work in directing the daily activities of the ERG section within Member Services. This position handles all escalated consultations and issues and provides consultative services. The employee also plans, schedules, and conducts large group meetings and seminars for prospective retirees, new members, personnel officers, and employee associations. This position oversees the processing of written and telephone communications regarding active members, retired members, disability recipients, beneficiaries and employers that participate in the retirement systems and other benefit programs and constituent services concerns received from the governor’s office and other legislative branch offices through resolution.
Duties & Responsibilities
Direct Retirement Benefits Counselors and Team Lead(s) in research and response of inquiries verbally, written, email, chat, and presentations.
Review and maintain various metrics supporting quality, time management, and customer service in accordance with general statutes, processes and procedures, and DST goals.
Manage high -level inquiries and escalations for constituents, and internal and external members.The Department of State Treasurer's campus is located on Atlantic Avenue, is surrounded by many shopping centers and restaurants, has access to a 24-hour 7-day a week free gym on the campus, and offers a competitive benefit package, and has free employee parking!
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
Qualified applicants must possess, and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following:
Supervisory experience in managing a team.
Experience in educating, assisting, and counseling parties of the benefits programs to determine entitlement, eligibility, etc.
Experience in researching issues and/or performs research of complicated benefit provisions.
Management Preferences:
Bachelor's degree in business or public administration.
4 years of benefits or human resources experience.
2 years of supervisory experience.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and five (5) years of experience related to the area of assignment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
