Director, Child Development Center

The Holton-Arms School seeks a collaborative, flexible, and enthusiastic Director for the Child Development Center at Holton-Arms School team for the 2025-26 school year. This is a full-time 10-month position.

Child Development Center (Brown House) Overview

The Child Development Center (CDC), also known as Brown House, provides a caring and nurturing environment for Holton-Arms faculty and staff children from infancy to preschool. The center is located in Brown House on the Holton-Arms campus and provides developmentally appropriate programs and activities that contribute to all aspects of a child's development. The Child Development Center provides services for up to 33 children and operates from August to June while school is in session.

Position Overview

The Child Care Center Director reports to the Head of Lower School and/or Associate Head of School and is responsible to plan, organize, implement, coordinate, and control services of the childcare program, exercising independent judgment and decision-making authority as delegated. The CDC Director is responsible for hiring, professional development, performance management and certification training for full-time, part-time and on-call staff within the center. Additionally, the director must ensure that the site and professional staff are up to date with state and local licensing.

Under general supervision, the director operates the childcare program in conformance with institutional regulations and state day care licensing provisions. Responsibilities include the overall management of the center’s early childhood program and its operation, facilitating, planning and coordinating of the children's educational programs and activities.

Key Responsibilities

Administration and Operations

Develop and implement program operating policies and activities.

Develop cost estimates for future program needs.

Conduct program registration.

Create and maintain appropriate files and waiting lists.

Order and maintain child care supplies and equipment.

Alter policies or procedures to ensure smooth operation of the program.

Direct the organization and follow-up of special activities such as off-campus field trips.

Staff Management and Support

Plan, develop, schedule, and/or provide in-service training and evaluation of child care staff.

Ensure that problems encountered by staff are resolved.

Assist child care center staff in preparing for and presenting early childhood programs and activities.

Assist as necessary with duties of instructional assistants.

Arrange and provide lunch breaks for teachers daily

Promote and market Brown House to other eligible schools to maintain enrollment

Regulatory Compliance and External Relations

Ensure that the center and staff conform to federal, state, and local rules, regulations, and licensing requirements.

Comply with requirements of all federal, state and local laws, as well as company policies and procedures.

Develop and maintain good working relationships with state licensing authorities, community contacts and Holton constituents.

Child Care, Curriculum, and Activities

Interact with children in early learning classrooms on a daily basis.

Design curriculum by age group.

Assist child care center staff in preparing for and presenting early childhood programs and activities. (This responsibility also falls under Staff Management)

Direct the organization and follow-up of special activities such as off-campus field trips. (This responsibility also falls under Administration and Operations)

Substitute in classrooms as needed to support the effective daily functions of te center

Child Records and Health

Maintain accurate records on children enrolled in the program to include their development, attendance, immunization and general health.

Maintain up to date medical records for all children.

Parent Communication

Confer with parents on a regular basis to discuss the development of their enrolled children.

Communicate daily with parents regarding child’s day.

Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

A bachelor’s degree

A bachelor's in early childhood development preferred

At least two to five years of experience in a leadership role in a day care environment

Completion of 6 semester hours or 90 clock hours of approved training or hold the Child Development Associate Credential CPR and First Aide Certifications

Salary and Benefits Information

The average salary range for this position is $80,000 to $100,000, the exact salary to be determined based on education and experience.
