TITLE: RECYCLING COORDINATOR

RATE OF PAY: $21.00 - $24.00 PER HOUR

INTRODUCTION:
The Recycling Center Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a recycling center, ensuring the efficient and effective management of all recycling activities. This role involves supervising volunteers, coordinating recycling processes, maintaining safety standards, and engaging with the community to promote recycling efforts. The coordinator fosters a positive, supportive, collaborative work environment while treating customers respectfully and providing educational guidance on recycling practices. The ideal candidate will posses strong organizational skills, experience in recycling or waste management, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a commitment to promoting sustainable practices and environmental stewardship is essential for success in this role.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Oversee the daily operations of the recycling center to ensure efficiency and effectiveness
• Identify recyclable material at numerous recovery stations and place it in the proper bin, chute, or receptacle
• Ensure that all recyclable materials are properly sorted, processed, and stored
• Monitor the inbound recycling stream for prohibited and hazardous waste, rectify all issues, and report them
• Performs labor tasks in buildings and equipment, such as shoveling, snow removal, raking, sweeping, dusting, vacuuming, painting, disinfecting, and cleaning
• Maintain cleanliness and organization within the recycling center
• Monitor and manage inventory of recycling supplies and materials
• Order necessary supplies and equipment to ensure uninterrupted operations.
• Track and report on inventory levels and usage
• Snow and debris removal as necessary for a safe environment
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED FOR POSITION:
• Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and environmental standards
• Conduct regular safety inspections and address any issues promptly
• Conducts preventative maintenance that is cost-effective and increases the operational life of equipment
• Maintain accurate records of safety incidents and implement corrective actions as needed
• Maintain records of all scheduled preventative maintenance and all repairs (scheduled and unscheduled)
• Assist customers with recycling inquiries and provide information on proper recycling practices
• Develop and implement community outreach programs to promote recycling and increase public participation
• Conduct educational tours and presentations to community groups, schools, and local organizations
• Operates equipment as designated
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Strong organizational and time management skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel as needed
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience in a supervisory or leadership role
• Risk Assessment experience
• Knowledge of environmental regulations and recycling best practices
• Familiarity with data management and reporting tools
• Must be able to effectively follow written and verbal instructions, fill out work orders, read and comprehend assembly and safety instructions, and keep accurate records and logs
• Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position; ability to lift up to 50 lbs., kneel, bend, climb ladders, work of the roof, work in inclement weather, work in an environment subject to chemical cleaners, pesticides (lawn maintenance), dust, allergens etc.
• Must be willing to work after hours as needed
