Diesel Mechanic Apprentice

To succeed as a Mechanic Apprentice, candidates need at least 1 year of tractor and trailer inspection and repair experience or a technical school degree with heavy-duty truck/trailer maintenance certification. A valid driver’s license and availability for various shifts, including days, evenings, and weekends, are essential. Qualifications include brake and vehicle inspection knowledge per FMCSA regulations, basic hand tools, and the ability to perform routine maintenance on heavy-duty diesel equipment. Preferred skills include a high school diploma, ASE certifications, diesel tech training, automotive or trades experience, basic computer skills, and welding abilities.

Responsibilities involve maintenance, safety inspections, repairs, moving trailers, operating specialized tools, and ensuring safety and organization. Physical demands include lifting objects up to 50 lbs, walking, bending, reaching, and working outdoors in weather.
