Wage Information

$10.86 to $18.72 per hour. The rate may increase under certain situations.

Salary Ranges:

Sporting Events Representative: $10.86-$13.50

Camp Counselor: $10.86-$15.00

Lead Counselor: $10.86-$17.00

Sports Management: $10.86-$18.72

This position is seasonal and open to everyone, no experience is required. This is a great position to find your start with City Government! This may be a great role for high school or college students over the summer, especially those with an interest in education, childhood development, or parks and recreation. Work to assist with all of the summer recreation activities the Hall of Fame City has to offer. Perform a variety of recreation activities, like working at the summer camp and assisting with sports and events. This is a unique opportunity to learn and gain valuable skills from Parks and Recreation.

Job Description

Shift: This is a seasonal position with variable daily work hours.

Distinguishing Features of the Class: This position is available in the Recreation Department.

This position may require physical work for play and sport events. Therefore, employees in this class must be in good physical condition. Performing repetitive work expected. Duties must be performed efficiently.

Examples of Work: Includes but not limited to: working sport events, camp counselors, lead counselors, and working at the Recreation Center. Responsible for personal safety practices.

Other related duties not listed, but consistent with, and similar in nature to above examples may be required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Physical ability to work outdoors in extreme and adverse conditions is a must. Ability to carry out oral and written instructions with minimum detail. Must possess adequate communication skills and deal tactfully with citizens of the public.

Acceptable Experience and Training: Minimum age is generally 16 years old. A work permit is required for students ages 17 and under.

City of Canton permanent, full-time employees (working 30 hours per week or more) and their eligible dependents become eligible for comprehensive health benefits on the first day of the month following 60 days of employment. Health benefits include hospitalization, outpatient services, prescription coverage, dental and vision coverage, and group life insurance.

Time off benefits may include paid vacation, paid holidays, and paid sick leave.
