Job Description

Pay Grade: H

Under general supervision, provides support to federal, state and local criminal justice agencies, private businesses and the general public relating to criminal justice information. Has responsibility for projects and assignments related to CJIS Programs. CJIS Programs may include Criminal History Record Information, Uniform Crime Reporting, Sex Offender Registry, Protection Order Registry, NCIC, CJIS network or other services provided by the Georgia Crime Information Center.

Role and Responsibilities:

Captures electronic fingerprints via Live Scan for the purpose of conducting criminal history checks to screen DHS employees (including interns and volunteers), Department of Family and Children’s Services (DFCS) relative and non-relative placement families, safety resources, home evaluations, and foster and adoptive parents to determine if their backgrounds are acceptable based on requirements set forth in DHS policies, state and federal laws, rules and regulations.

Liaises with DHS requestors as required to ensure that documentation required for criminal history records check process is accurate and complete.

Downloads criminal history records information from electronic fingerprinting database, ensures completeness and accuracy of criminal history records information, reads and analyzes results, prepares criminal history summaries and submits to points of contact for DHS in a timely manner.

Liaises with FBI, GBI and Live Scan vendor to correct inaccuracies in criminal histories; provides advisement to applicants regarding process to implement to correct an inaccurate history by contacting the FBI or GBI, as applicable and appropriate.

Reports issues with criminal history records information to proper authorities, as required.

Gathers and compiles detailed or confidential information, conducts interviews, and maintains integrity of any data collected, etc. in compliance with FBI and GBI laws, rules and regulations.

Maintains a log of criminal history records information for each applicant live scanned (data to include all fields indicated on Live Scan log).

Stores, maintains and destroys criminal history records, documentation, database files, logs, accounts, confidential and/or legal records, fingerprint cards, etc, in compliance with FBI and GBI laws, rules and regulations.

Prepares and submits monthly reports to BIU supervisor via email.

Performs technical support, such as verification of fingerprints on criminal and applicant records, placement of program applicants, interpretation of program requirements, etc.

Provides assistance and problem resolution to customers, employers, staff, and other agencies.

Maintains a professional, high quality, customer-focused attitude when conducting business with internal and external customers.

Performs quality control measures and self-audits to ensure data is accurate and meets program compliance standards, as well as FBI and GBI laws, rules and regulations.

Performs Quarterly reviews of DFCS County Offices files to ensure compliance with FBI and GBI laws, rules and regulations.

Obtains GBI/GCIC Security and Integrity Certification every two years, as required by GCIC.

Signs GBI/GCIC Awareness every two years.

Processes criminal history background checks for other DHS programs, on a needs basis.

Maintains adequate inventory of required office supplies.

Performs other professional responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED AND Two years of business related experience.
