Job Description
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Design Engineer is responsible for design engineering support of new and existing product, including part, tool, fixture, and gage design in a metal stamping, fabricating and assembly environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Read and interpret part prints, print changes and specifications
Design progressive metal stamping and slide forming tools
Design tools for sheet metal punching, forming and fabricating
Design gages, staging fixtures and comparator traces to support inspection of production parts
Design fixtures for welding and assembly
Specify material based on customer print and specifications
Establish and maintain design timeline
Provide customer feedback on print tolerances and product design for manufacturability
Support Tool Engineering, Production and Manufacturing Engineering during development and pilot run
Participate in product launch teams within the framework of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
Support internal teams with other design assistance as required
Other duties as assigned or required
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or abilities required.
Associate’s degree in Mechanical Design Engineering or related field; a minimum of two (2) years related design experience required and a minimum of three (3) years of manufacturing, metal stamping or fabrication experience required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proven organization skills required
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
Familiarity with Logopress3 preferred
3D CAD proficiency required, SolidWorks preferred
Familiarity with APQP process preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; frequently required to sit and talk or hear; occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
