The Cage Processing Technician is a critical role that supports animal research at Tulane.

Job Responsibilities: * Operates mechanical cage washing equipment, autoclaves and other sanitizing equipment.
* Loads assembled cages onto transport racks in preparation for sterilization by steam autoclave.
* Provides basic cage wash duties including the processing of all caging material through mechanical cage and rack washers * Maintains cagewash facilities in a clean and organized manner * Maintains facility equipment and performs routine preventative maintenance on cagewash and autoclaves * Disposes of waste materials in a safe and thorough manner as required * Sweeps, mops and disinfects cage wash areas at the end of each shift NOTE: To provide necessary care for the animals, this position is required to be available on weekends and holidays.
This position is considered essential personnel in the event of an emergency.
* Ability to understand and follow detailed oral and written instructions.
* Ability to read and write in order to maintain records, read instructions, labels, etc.
* Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.
* Ability to work under environmental conditions that require the use of safety equipment.
* Ability to interact and work with faculty, students, staff, and visitors in a respectful and courteous manner * Ability to maintain confidentiality in all work performed * Ability to lift items weighting up to 50 pounds and push items weighing up to 200 pounds; able to stand for extended periods of time.
* Ability to use industrial equipment such as pallet jacks, floor scrubbing machines, cage and rack washers, and autoclaves * Ability to complete and pass successfully the required occupational health screening referenced in the University's Animal Handler Health Surveillance Program on an annual basis * High School Diploma or equivalent.N/A
