About the role

This position involves providing technical expertise and application support, both independently and in collaboration with teams within the Kerry Group. The role focuses on leveraging existing technologies for the Japanese market, offering solutions to customers and sales teams, and managing development projects to drive innovation. Responsibilities include conducting product evaluations, delivering technical training, supporting customer visits, and maintaining laboratory and kitchen spaces. Additionally, the role requires continuous knowledge development through research and engagement with Kerry’s internal resources.

Key responsibilities

Provide application support and proactively develop new concepts, either locally or in collaboration with relevant teams within the Kerry Group.

Identify, evaluate, and leverage existing technologies and products suitable for the Japanese market, responding effectively to business opportunities.

Deliver technical solutions and training to the sales team and customers.

Address technical inquiries from customers and sales representatives.

Accompany the commercial team and distributors on customer visits as needed for prototype presentations.

Enhance scientific knowledge and technical expertise through engagement with Kerry’s teams, literature reviews, and application studies.

Recommend products and evaluate collection samples for sales recommendations or internal presentations; review requests for non-collection and R&D samples.

Lead and oversee development projects by tracking progress, conducting project reviews, and analyzing the pipeline to maintain a healthy and active project portfolio.

Organize and maintain laboratory and kitchen spaces.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and skills

Minimum bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field such as Food Science, Chemistry, or related disciplines.

Over five years of experience in the food and food ingredients industry.

Strong understanding of sensory evaluations and food manufacturing processes.

Previous experience in the beverage food service, dairy, or e-commerce industry is a plus.

Ability to develop and implement innovative solutions to enhance products, improve processes, and create a competitive advantage.

Experience in managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including Commercial/Sales teams, General Management, and Customers.

Strong project management skills and experience.

Expertise in food science, chemical engineering, nutrition, and regulatory requirements.

Solid understanding of the flavour, dairy, and beverage business in Japan, including key customers, competitors, and regulations.

Experience in preparing and managing budgets.

Proven ability to build and maintain a high-performing, talented R&D organization.

Ability to articulate a compelling vision for the RD&A function to various internal and external stakeholders.
