One of our clients, a major oil and gas company, has tasked us with finding a Cost Engineer to join their team in Edmonton, AB. This role is critical in driving cost control strategies, optimizing budget performance, and ensuring forecasting accuracy across major capital projects and turnarounds within Canada’s refining and upstream oil sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement advanced cost tracking tools using Power BI, SQL, and direct database integration to enhance reporting efficiency, accuracy, and adaptability.
Standardize cost tracking methodologies across refinery sites, improving collaboration, visibility, and workload distribution.
Partner with global teams to refine cost forecasting systems, including regional cost factors for Western Canada.
Support capital funding approvals by preparing cost estimates and appropriation packages for projects exceeding $108 billion in value.
Manage annual budgets for direct/indirect project costs, oversee procurement for 40+ suppliers, and ensure owner-side cost control.
Integrate seasonal cash flow analysis into CapEx forecasting to improve budget alignment and strategic decision-making.
Required Skills & Experience:
Strong expertise in Power BI, SQL/database integration, and cost forecasting tools.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel/Access for data analysis and reporting.
Experience in capital projects, turnarounds, or refinery/upstream oil & gas operations.
Ability to collaborate with global stakeholders, vendors, and cross-functional teams.
Strong analytical skills with a focus on cost optimization and financial accuracy.
