Job Title: Student Maintenance Technician Internship

Location: Moffat County School District

Department: Facilities Department

Reports To: Director of Facilities

Duration: June - August

Hours: FTE 1.0

Job Overview:

The Student Maintenance Technician Intern will work alongside the facilities maintenance team to assist with the upkeep and repair of building systems and infrastructure at Moffat County School District. This internship provides hands-on experience in general maintenance tasks, troubleshooting, and equipment repair, offering valuable skills in building systems management, safety protocols, and hands-on technical work. The successful candidate will gain exposure to the daily operations of a maintenance team while supporting the overall maintenance needs of the campus or facility.

Salary: $14.81 Hourly

Key Responsibilities:

Assist with general maintenance tasks including minor repairs and troubleshooting of building systems such as plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and lighting systems.

Help with routine inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment, machinery, and facility infrastructure.

Perform basic carpentry tasks, such as fixing doors, windows, and furniture, or assisting with renovations and improvements.

Assist in the installation and setup of various equipment and fixtures.

Help maintain records of maintenance activities, including repairs, parts used, and inspection results.

Support the maintenance team with emergency repairs and issue resolutions in campus buildings, classrooms, and other facilities.

Assist in maintaining a clean and organized maintenance shop, including inventory management of tools, parts, and supplies.

Assist with the preparation and testing of new equipment and systems to ensure proper functioning.

Provide support in handling general upkeep duties such as painting, fixing leaks, and changing filters.

Follow all safety protocols and guidelines when performing tasks, especially when handling tools, chemicals, and equipment.

Report any safety hazards, maintenance issues, or equipment malfunctions to the Maintenance Supervisor or Facilities Manager.

Qualifications:

Currently enrolled as a student in high school, college, or university, preferably with an interest in facilities management, engineering, or technical trades.

Strong interest in working with hands-on maintenance tasks and equipment.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Basic knowledge of general maintenance tasks, such as repairs, installations, and troubleshooting.

Good communication and problem-solving skills.

Physical ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.

Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.

Prior experience in general maintenance or a technical trade is a plus but not required.

Preferred Skills:

Basic understanding of building systems, including plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and lighting.

Familiarity with maintenance equipment and tools.

Ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals or technical documents.

Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.

Previous internships or experience in maintenance or facilities management is a plus.
