Job Title: Multilingual Learner (MLL) Teacher (Grades 9–12)
Reports To: Director of Education Enrichment
Job Summary:
The Multilingual Learner (MLL) Teacher will support high school students in grades 9–12 who are identified as English Learners (ELs), fostering their academic growth and English language development in alignment with state and federal guidelines. The MLL Teacher will collaborate with content-area teachers, administrators, and families to ensure that students acquire the English language skills needed to access curriculum, meet graduation requirements, and achieve post-secondary success.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct English language instruction to MLL students using research-based instructional strategies.
Assess students' English language proficiency and monitor progress using state-mandated assessments (e.g., WIDA ACCESS).
Develop individualized instructional plans based on language proficiency levels and academic needs.
Collaborate with general education teachers to support language acquisition within content-area classes.
Co-plan to provide integrated language and content instruction.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress.
Participate in school-wide professional development and MLL-specific training.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district policies related to English Learners.
Advocate for MLL students and work to foster an inclusive school environment that respects linguistic and cultural diversity.
Qualifications:
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, TESOL, or a related field.
Valid teaching certification with ESL or MLL endorsement (or eligibility).
Demonstrated knowledge of second language acquisition and culturally responsive pedagogy.
Preferred:
Master’s degree in TESOL, Bilingual Education, or a related field.
Experience teaching high school students, particularly multilingual learners/long-term ELs.
Bilingual or multilingual proficiency.
Work Environment:
This position is based at the High School located on Otts Chapel Road. The role involves classroom instruction, collaboration meetings, and engagement with a diverse student population.
