Pay Status and Classification: Exempt, Regular full-time

Supervisor: Director of Residential Education & Housing

Position Purpose: Reporting to the Director of Residential Education & Housing, this position is responsible for all residential operations, including housing assignments, residence hall openings and closings, updating departmental websites, marketing efforts, and front-line customer service functions. Serve as a member of the Residential Education & Housing leadership through supervision of professional staff and oversight of student staff. Provide leadership and strategic direction to residential communities through specialized communities, focusing on an independent upperclassman experience. Serve as a member of the senior leadership on call rotation, supported through optional live on opportunities.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

Housing Operations Oversight: Oversees operational matters related to campus residences for student, including but not limited to: develop and maintain knowledge of the housing database (The Housing Director), prepare and maintain accurate occupancy records, reports, and procedures. Coordinates processes for housing assignments, room selection, openings, closings, break housing, and routine facilities inspections. Collaborates with Facilities, Finance, Campus Safety and other departments as needed to ensure operational matters are addressed. Oversee contracts as tied to housing operations: laundry, wifi, dorm movers, etc.

Supervision and Office Management: Directly supervise and mentor 2-3 professional staff members and oversight for the paraprofessional student staff. This includes hiring, onboarding training, performance planning, and evaluation, as deemed appropriate. Ability to plan, direct, and evaluate an area operation, using staff, time, funds, and other resources for the accomplishment of long-term and short-term goals of the institution. Ability to provide administrative guidance within the area of responsibility, providing direct training and supervision as needed. Serving a critical role in customer service and de-escalation, handling concerns from students and parents regarding student housing matters.

Administration: Oversight of phone and email correspondence with students, parents, and other offices regarding questions related to room assignments, ensuring timely and consistent correspondence. Manage budget as tied directly to all assigned areas of responsibility. Provide assistance to the department of Residential Education & Housing in creating and sustaining a culture of evidence-based assessment. Compile data and provide routine verbal and written responses to inquiries about departmental operations to students, campus colleagues, other institutions' housing officers and to the public. Serve as a Student Conduct adjudicator as needed to support maintaining a safe and conducive environment for student success within the residential community. Serve as a senior member of the On-Call Response Team.

Leadership: Under the direction of the Director of Residential Education & Housing, work closely with the leadership team to ensure that all units are integrated, coordinated, and connected in order to fully advance the residential experience. Operationalize the long-term Residential Education & Housing strategy and vision that is defined by the Director of Residential Education & Housing, in partnership with other members of the leadership team. Participates in regular professional staff on-call rotation, providing crisis intervention and serving as a resource or referral agent.

Campus Partnership: Manage and improve Residential Education’s website, portal page, and social media accounts. Ensures that the website and other social presences align with the department’s operations calendar. Oversee the creation of all branded materials, including apparel, printed, and promotional items. Oversee office communication planning, including centralized processes, monthly Community Director newsletters, and working with campus partners as needed. Oversee Office’s presence at Admissions events.

Qualifications:

Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Counseling or related field and a minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in residential life, occupancy management or related field and/or a combination of relevant education, training, certifications, and/or work experience.

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.

Ability to manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to exercise exceptional judgment, even in the absence of clear and direct guidance, ensure strict confidentiality, and demonstrate outstanding professionalism across a range of situations.

Able to support, contribute to, and strengthen a vibrant, culturally diverse, and inclusive learning community of students, alumni, faculty, and fellow staff colleagues.

Ability to proactively identify and pursue relevant learning and professional development opportunities and apply new knowledge, insights, and skills to enhance results.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of residential liberal arts college administration and cultural norms gained through a liberal arts education, continuing education, and/or relevant work, volunteer, and life experiences.

Previous experience working in Student Affairs.

Experience with managing digital media and marketing including website management.

Experience with housing operations or assignments, especially utilizing housing software like The Housing Director.

Demonstrated success directing, initiating and fostering collaborative relationships with internal and external partners and stakeholders.

Exceptional problem solving, policy development and communication skills.

Compensation:

The annual salary range for this position is $64,000-$66,000. Except for roles with a set rate of pay, the wage/salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The stated hiring rate/range represents the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the rate/range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
