Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Principal, the Assistant Principal directs, coordinates, and evaluates activities of teachers and other staff providing instructional programming, diagnostic and evaluation services, or other special education related services for students in school age programs. Under the direction of the Principal, the Assistant Principal oversees all building management functions. Serves as the Principal of Record in the absence of the Principal.

Essential Functions:

Assists the principal to oversee the instructional program and staff activities providing technical assistance in areas such as assessment, curriculum development, report writing, use of materials and equipment, development of IEPs and management of student behavior.

Assists the principal to plan, organize and conduct staff meetings and professional development activities for staff.

Serves as the principal of record in the absence of the Principal

Works collaboratively with local education agencies and parents to resolve issues regarding programming, services and student needs.

Works collaboratively with Principal and special education supervisors to develop policy and procedure that mirror best practices in the field.

Assists the principal to provide leadership and coordination in the development and implementation of an instructional program by evaluating programs and services on a regular basis to encourage the use of a variety of instructional strategies and materials consistent with research regarding learning.

Assist the principal to design, provide, and oversee quality special education programs and services to students with diverse academic, social, developmental, behavioral and emotional needs.

Supervise personnel assigned to ensure that all responsibilities are met and exceeded.

Ensures that personnel evaluation procedures are accomplished in a fair and consistent manner that encourages accountability, growth and excellence, in accordance with law, Board policy and contractual requirements.

Recommends staffing needs and assist with the recruitment and selection of new personnel.

Protects confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and uses discretion in sharing such information within legal confines.

Provides orientation, in-service training and technical assistance for program staff.

Establishes a professional rapport with students and with staff that earns their respect by maintaining visibility with students, staff, parents and the community.

Displays the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, districts and agencies.

Supervisory Responsibility: Supervises subordinates who are employed by Bucks IU. Responsibilities include the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these programs and staff. Supervisory responsibilities executed in accordance with the organization's policies, applicable Federal, State statutes, and regulations. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time, 260-day calendar position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Hours of work are from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Hours are dependent on the needs of the districts. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel: Travel to district locations are expected for this position.

Education and Experience:

Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Special Education. Principal certification required.

A minimum of five years of teaching experience which includes experience teaching students with special needs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Broad and comprehensive knowledge of all areas of student learning and special Education

Experience writing and delivering IEPs required.

Ability to communicate clearly to local school districts, school boards, Pennsylvania Department of Education, I.U. staff and community and parent groups.

Ability to develop and present demonstration material to groups and individuals, including the demonstration of facilitation skills.

Ability to interact with individuals at all levels of the organization.

Knowledge and prior experience with databases and Microsoft Office suite as well as aptitude to acquire skills in current and future technologies.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance (if applicable): Citizenship or work authorization to work in the United States required.
