JOB DESCRIPTION
Overall purpose The Data Analyst will provide critical analytical support to the OfS B3 Working Group, ensuring robust data driven insights into student outcomes. The role involves analysing performance metrics, identifying disparities, and modelling risks to inform strategic interventions.
Roles and responsibilities
Data Preparation, Analysis & Reporting
• Extract, transform, and structure data from complex relational databases while ensuring data quality, consistency, and usability for analysis and other downstream applications.
• Design and implement reproducible data pipelines to automate data preparation workflows and enable scalable, timely access to analytics dataset.
• Conduct statistical analysis of student outcomes (continuation, completion, progression) against OfS thresholds.
• Identify demographic disparities (e.g., by ethnicity, disability, socioeconomic status) using institutional datasets.
• Benchmark institutional performance against sector comparators. Predictive Analytics and Risk Modelling
• Collaborate with the Artificial Intelligence Regent (AIR) team to develop predictive models forecasting student outcomes.
• Flag at-risk cohorts to enable proactive interventions Visualisation and Communication
• Create dashboards and reports for tutors and senior leaders (e.g. Provost, GCCO, COO) to track B3 compliance.
• Present complex data findings in accessible formats for non-technical stakeholders. Compliance & Governance
• Ensure data integrity and alignment with OfS reporting requirements.
• Support annual APP evaluations and regulatory submissions.
Person Specification
Essential
• Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, Python, SPSS) and data visualisation tools (Power BI, Tableau).
• Experience in educational data analysis, ideally in HE student outcomes.
• Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
Desirable
• Knowledge of OfS datasets (e.g., HESA, Graduate Outcomes).
• Experience in predictive modelling or machine learning.
