Apave America is currently accepting applications for experienced API 936 Refractory Inspectors for full-time and project needs.

Position Overview:
The API 936 Inspector is responsible for performing refractory inspection services for FCC, SRU, and heaters while ensuring that the Project Quality Plan in conjunction with Project Execution Plan is developed and implemented. This role will promote quality awareness throughout the organization, emphasizing excellence, continuous improvement, and corrective action to influence the overall success of company business. The essential duties and responsibilities of the API 936 Inspector include but are not limited to the following:
At the direction of client, perform visual and non-destructive examination of static and dynamic pressure retaining equipment in accordance with American Petroleum Institute (API) standard 936.
Interface directly with client representatives as necessary.
Perform inspections or audits and review testing for conformance to Client specifications, industry standards, and approved procedures and reporting of results.
Review material test reports to conformance with applicable codes and standards.
Submit to client technically accurate reports documenting equipment condition.
Provide client with technical recommendations for the repair, re-rate, replacement, and/or alteration of plant equipment, as required for safe operation within stated operating parameters for durations specified by client.
Perform the follow-up of dispositions and corrective actions related to non-conformances.
Review and agree upon project quality procedures, standards, and specifications ensuring that all parties are adhering to them.
Provide technical input to client as required for welding and metallurgical issues.
Provide technical guidance on the application of non-destructive examination techniques and procedures.
Review Inspection & Testing Plans to ensure a standardized minimum level of surveillance in accordance with the contractual requirements. Identify the critical inspections and tests to be witnessed by the Owner.
Fully comply with all IRISNDT and client safe work practices and actively participate in all site safety initiatives.
Welding inspection, procedures, techniques, and personnel qualifications.
Travel may be required.
Competencies:
Knowledge of installation, inspection, testing, and repair of refractory linings.
Clear understanding of basic procurement and fabrication processes with knowledge of relevant codes and specifications for the oil and gas industry.
Basic knowledge of material properties.
Capable of documenting inspection activities in electronic formats; Technical report writing skills.
Strong computer skills with proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications and Outlook.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to multi-task and perform under pressure.
Ability to maintain positive working relations with clients and co-workers.
Mentoring skills
Ability to work extended hours.
Able to read and understand Drawings.
Willingness to travel.
Qualifications & Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent is required
Must be at least 18 years of age
Certification to American Petroleum Institute Standard API 936 is required. Additional Certification(s) in API 510/570/653, CWI and or NACE are preferred and will be considered an asset
Requires certification(s) in the relevant inspection discipline and a minimum of 5 years of experience applying the discipline skill to oil and gas equipment
Experience with field installation of both refractory and fireproofing systems in a heavy industrial environment.
Experience working in direct support of petrochemical facility engineers
Work Conditions:
Field duties require indoor and outdoor work in diverse industrial environments with varying climate conditions
Interaction with other crew members, as well as supervisors, client personnel and a wide range of stakeholders
Working in a plant and/or shop area around production machinery with extreme noise levels
Work from various levels of heights and/or confined spaces for long periods of time
Wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection (PPE)
Travel to different job sites as needed, sometimes on short notice
May require shiftwork (days, evenings, nights)
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Ability to lift, move, and carry objects weighing 75lbs. or greater repeatedly
Must be able to walk, sit, stand, bend, reach, and climb
Must be able to work in confined spaces and at heights, including climbing tanks, ladders, scaffolding, towers, piping systems, catwalks, structural steel, and wind turbines
Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking and stooping
Working extended hours and standing for extended periods of time
Work in indoor and outdoor environments in all weather conditions, including extreme heat and/or cold
Work in and near industrial hazards
Must be able to walk and climb except when performing non-field duties
