Description:

Opportunity to positively influence how we invest in the communities and community spaces of Tāmaki Makaurau

Research, co-design, and plan our community facilities and services

Permanent role

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

We mahi closely with our communities to co-develop services and spaces that enhance the lives of Aucklanders. As a Service and Asset Planning Specialist you’ll make a significant contribution to this by leading complex and complicated investigations that help us understand what is happening in our communities now and helping create an understanding of what could happen in the future.

You’ll lead the development of community needs assessments, business cases, and cost/benefit analyses, and advise our decision-makers on where and how the rōpū needs to provide community services, places, and facilities.

Key to this role will be your ability to translate policy and research into good-quality verbal and written advice on community service investment. You'll be working with other council directorates and council-controlled organisations (CCOs) on strategic projects to transform Auckland.

Our community services and facilities need to respond to a growing and more diverse Auckland, within the context of a constrained financial environment. Our team will provide a crucial contribution to investment planning over the coming years, so this is an exciting opportunity where you know your efforts will be valued and make a difference!

He kōrero mōu: About you

We are looking for someone with experience delivering projects with significant impact for communities, a comprehensive understanding of service design, and the ability to design asset management and investment strategies that prioritise service delivery outcomes.

You will have strong stakeholder and relationship management skills and the ability to give quality and constructive advice within a diverse political environment. You will enjoy working in a collaborative and flexible team environment and bring experience of coaching and supporting other team members.

Knowledge of Auckland Council’s strategic plans and policies, te reo and tikanga Māori, and how the Local Government (Auckland Council) Act 2009 impacts on option assessment and decision-making would be highly advantageous.

Ideally, you are excited by the opportunity to mahi in a team with a customer-centric approach, a collaborative culture, and that celebrates diversity.

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer

If you’re looking for your next challenge and are interested in building your experience in community services planning, this could be the ideal opportunity. It’s a highly covetable chance to be involved in planning the region’s community services within Te Kaunihera o Tāmaki Makaurau.

We believe that diversity is a strength and by embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion this allows us to build a dynamic team. We strive to create an environment where everyone feels valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.

We offer a flexible working schedule, long service leave, learning and development opportunities and study leave.

If this sounds like the perfect role for you, but you don’t quite match all the stated job requirements, please tell us in your own words how your skills or competences would support the team. Above all, your mindset and attitude is everything, you don’t need to ‘tick all the boxes’. We would love to hear about the innovative thinking you could bring to the role.
